Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200

The AirTAC SAILB200X200 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because it is a SAILB variant, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages automatically to hold the piston rod securely at the retracted stroke end. Delivering 15708N of push force at 0.5MPa and a maximum of 3204kgf at 1.0MPa, this 200mm bore unit is built for heavy-load holding without requiring continuous live air pressure.

The lock is strictly a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, rather than a dynamic brake for a moving rod. To release the load, you supply air to the release port or use the manual override. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 28mm, which is shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end. Also, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Vertical Lifts

Holds massive lifted masses securely in the retracted position during a power loss event, preventing dangerous gravitational drops.

shield

Safety Gate Hold

Maintains a heavy safety barrier closed and locked at the rod-in end without consuming continuous compressed air.

factory

Press Clamping

Delivers 15708N of clamping force at 0.5MPa and locks the press at the retracted terminal to secure the workpiece.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore model when your application demands extreme load holding at the retracted position, requiring up to 3204kgf. If you need less force, stepping down to a 160mm bore yields 10053N of push at 0.5MPa. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be held in the rod-in position, and choose SAILF if it must be held at the extended rod-out position. If your application requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

This cylinder uses a PT tapered port and a carbon steel rod. For replacements, verify the 200mm stroke, back locker position, and standard mounting options like Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, or TCM2. Since the lock holds statically without live pressure, always add an independent safety measure for human-safety-critical loads. The operating speed range is 30-500mm/s.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200 FAQ

At 0.5MPa, the push force is 15708N and the pull force is 15080N. At the maximum operating pressure of 1.0MPa, it delivers a maximum push force of 3204kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end on the back cover. It holds statically after the rod stops and is not a mid-stroke clamp or dynamic brake. Unlock it automatically via air release or manually via the lever.
