Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200S

The AirTAC SAILB200X200-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A standard carbon steel rod handles heavy loads, while the integrated spring-applied, air-released lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end. This mechanism holds the load securely without requiring live air pressure, providing essential safety during power loss.

Delivering 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, this size utilizes a 3/4 PT port and operates at speeds between 30-500 mm/s. The lock-end variable air cushion spans 28mm, which is intentionally shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end. For position sensing, the included -S magnet works seamlessly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state switches.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Heavy Lift Holding

Secures massive vertical loads in the retracted position automatically when air pressure drops, preventing sudden crashes.

build

Press Clamp Safety

Holds heavy press tooling firmly at the rod-in stroke end during emergency stops without relying on continuous air supply.

shield

Gate Bracing

Locks large industrial gates or safety barriers in the closed position securely until a deliberate air release signal is sent.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 200mm bore when a 160mm bore (14074N push at 0.5 MPa) is insufficient for your heavy vertical lifting requirements. Choose the SAILB configuration to secure the load at the fully retracted rod-in position; select a SAILF variant instead if the extended rod-out position must be held. If your application requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, choose the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Remember that this lock is a static holding device engaged after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves with this cylinder; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required because back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. For any safety-critical load that could endanger personnel if it drops, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement parts require matching the 200mm bore, 200mm stroke, back locker position, 3/4 PT port threads, and the -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X200S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, the push force is 15708N and the pull force is 15080N. At the maximum 1.0 MPa pressure, the push force reaches 21991N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only at the retracted stroke end to hold the load statically without live pressure. It can be unlocked automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the release lever.
