Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø200mm bore, 350mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350S

The AirTAC SAILB200X350-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it automatically engages a lock pin to hold the rod at the fully retracted stroke end whenever the release air is cut. This guarantees static load retention without consuming live pressure, delivering a substantial 15708N push force at 0.5MPa for heavy-duty vertical holding tasks.

Unlike a plain SAI unit, this model integrates a magnet (-S) for direct compatibility with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors. The variable air cushion at the locker end measures 28mm, which is shorter than the 50mm cushion on the free end, ensuring precise deceleration near the lock engagement zone without interfering with the mechanism.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa15708 N15080 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Power-Failure Lift Hold

Secures heavy vertical lifting platforms in the retracted position instantly upon air loss, preventing catastrophic drops without relying on continuous pneumatic pressure.

build

Heavy Press Retention

Locks a massive press ram at the top stroke terminal during tool changes or maintenance, ensuring the heavy carriage remains safely clamped during downtime.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Holds large industrial safety gates and blast doors firmly shut at the end of stroke, keeping the barrier secure until the air-release system is deliberately activated.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 200mm bore when a 160mm cylinder (providing 10053N push at 0.5MPa) lacks the thrust to safely lift or lower your payload. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be secured in the retracted position; if your process requires holding the rod out, the SAILF variant is the correct match. For applications needing to freeze motion at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the required solution.

Remember that the SAIL lock is a static holding device that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the pin; always pair this cylinder with an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. At 350mm stroke, the leverage on the 40mm carbon steel rod increases side-load risks, so rigid guide rails are strongly recommended. If human safety depends on the load remaining elevated, install an independent mechanical support. Replacement units require matching the PT 3/4 port, 200mm bore, 350mm stroke, back locker position, and mounting style from the Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, or TCM2 options.

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB200X350S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, it provides 15708N of push force and 15080N of pull force. At the maximum operating pressure of 0.9MPa, the push force reaches 28274N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod statically at the retracted stroke end. It engages after the cylinder stops and is unlocked by supplying release air or using the manual lever; it does not clamp at mid-stroke.
