Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB40X200S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB40X200S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø40mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB40X200S

The AirTAC SAILB40X200-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. A carbon steel rod provides 628N of push force at 0.5MPa. The spring-applied, air-released lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the load without requiring continuous live air pressure. You can unlock it via air supply or the manual release lever.

This model includes a magnetic piston for position detection using AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors. The variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter at 20mm compared to 27mm on the free end, ensuring precise deceleration before the lock engages. Remember that the lock provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, rather than acting as a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB40X200S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Safety

Holds a lifted load securely in the retracted position during a sudden power loss, preventing uncontrolled descent.

lock

End-of-Stroke Clamping

Maintains positive mechanical positioning at the retracted terminal without consuming continuous compressed air.

conveyor_belt

Gate Hold

Keeps an access gate firmly closed and locked at the end of the return stroke until the release air is supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB40X200S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 40mm bore if your application requires up to 628N of push force; stepping up to a 50mm bore yields 982N for heavier loads. Select the SAILB configuration when the load must be held in the retracted position, and choose SAILF if it needs holding at the extended end. If your process requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, use the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead. For safe operation, avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. Always add an independent safety measure if human safety depends on the load staying up. Replacement specifications: 40mm bore, 200mm stroke, back locker, PT tapered ports, and a magnetic piston (-S).

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB40X200S FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, the 40mm bore provides 628N of push force and 528N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 879N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake. Unlocking is done automatically via air supply or manually via the release lever.
