Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200S

The AirTAC SAILB63X200-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. It provides a robust 1559N push force at 0.5MPa, making it a solid choice for medium-duty handling. The lock is spring-applied and air-released, meaning it engages automatically when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, securely holding the load without requiring continuous live air pressure. You can release the lock pneumatically or via the manual override lever.

Because the lock mechanism occupies space in the back cover, the variable air cushion at the locker end is shorter (21mm) compared to the free end (30mm). This model includes a magnetic piston (-S) for position sensing using AirTAC CMSE reed switches or DMSE solid-state sensors. The carbon steel rod offers good durability, and the PT threaded ports ensure a reliable, tapered seal.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 63mm bore cylinder when your application demands a fail-safe hold at the retracted position. If your process requires less force, the 50mm bore offers 982N push force at 0.5MPa; for heavier loads, the 80mm bore provides 2513N. Choose this SAILB model to hold the rod-in position; choose a SAILF variant if you need to secure the extended stroke end. If your design requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke terminal, you must use a BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Remember that the SAIL lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake that stops a moving rod. Never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. For safety-critical loads that must stay up during a power loss, add an independent safety measure. Replacement matches require a 63mm bore, 200mm stroke, back locker position, PT port, and a magnetic piston.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X200S FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 63mm bore cylinder provides 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It holds the load statically without live pressure. You can unlock it automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the lever.
