Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X25

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X25 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 25mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X25

The AirTAC SAILB80X25 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the back cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, cutting the release air drives a lock pin into the carbon steel rod, securely holding the load at the retracted stroke end without requiring live pressure. Delivering 2513N of push force at 0.5 MPa, it provides robust power for heavy vertical loads.

This model features a 25mm stroke and a 3/8 PT port. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion on the free end to accommodate the locking hardware. The lock releases automatically via air supply or through a manual override lever. For position sensing, adding a magnet (-S) allows the use of CMSE reed or DMSE solid-state sensors.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø80mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa2513 N2268 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X25 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Safety

Holds a lifted platform securely at the retracted stroke end during power loss, preventing sudden drops.

lock

End-Stroke Clamping

Maintains a workpiece clamped at the rod-in terminal position without consuming continuous compressed air.

conveyor_belt

Gate Holding

Secures a heavy conveyor diverter gate in the closed position, unlocking only when release air is supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X25 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 80mm bore cylinder when an application requires 2513N push force at 0.5 MPa and a static hold at the rod-in position; if your mechanism needs less force, a 63mm bore offers 1559N, while stepping up to a 100mm bore yields 3927N. Choose this SAILB configuration specifically to hold the load retracted, whereas a SAILF variant holds the extended position. If your workflow requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke terminal, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Remember that this lock engages statically after the piston stops, so it cannot brake a moving rod. To prevent back-pressure from accidentally lifting the lock, avoid fast-exhaust valves and use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For human-safety critical overhead loads, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement matches require an 80mm bore, 25mm stroke, back locker position, 3/8 PT port, and your desired mounting style from the full ISO 15552 set.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X25 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 80mm bore cylinder provides 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0 MPa pressure, it delivers up to 513 kgf.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake, and unlocks via air supply or a manual lever. It does not clamp at mid-stroke.
