The AirTAC SAILB80X50 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock housed in the back cover. A spring-applied, air-released mechanism engages a lock pin to hold the rod securely at the retracted stroke end, maintaining the load position even when air pressure is lost. Delivering 2513N of push force at 0.5 MPa, this unit is dimensionally interchangeable per ISO 15552 mounting standards.

The lock is a static holding device that engages after the piston stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. It operates via automatic air release or a manual override lever. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 22.5mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion at the free end to accommodate the locking hardware.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Choose this 80mm bore for medium-force applications needing 2513N push or 2268N pull force at 0.5 MPa; step down to a 63mm bore if your load requires only 1559N. Select SAILB to hold the load at the retracted rod-in position, whereas SAILF holds at the extended rod-out position. If your application requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke end, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Remember that the lock holds statically at the stroke end without live air.
