Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 800mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800S

The AirTAC SAILB80X800-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. Because the lock engages when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end, it secures the rod-in position and holds the load without requiring live air pressure. Delivering 2513N of push force at 0.5MPa, this 80mm bore unit is built for robust load-holding on power loss.

This model includes a magnetic piston (-S) for use with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors. The variable air cushion decelerates the rod near the stroke terminals, with the locker-end cushion measuring 22.5mm compared to 36mm on the free end. The lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake, and utilizes a carbon steel rod with PT threaded ports.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø80mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa2513 N2268 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position automatically during a power loss, preventing sudden drops on lifting fixtures.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Holds safety gates or heavy guards closed at the rod-in stroke end without consuming continuous compressed air.

conveyor_belt

Clamp and Hold

Maintains clamping force on a workpiece at the end of the stroke while air pressure is removed from the system.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 80mm bore cylinder when an application requires 2513N push force at 0.5MPa and failsafe retracted-end holding. If your load demands less force, the 63mm bore provides 1559N; if more is needed, the 100mm bore offers 3927N. Select this SAILB configuration to hold the rod-in position; choose a SAILF model instead to hold the rod-out position. If the mechanism requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

For an 800mm stroke, external guide rails are strongly recommended to prevent excessive side-loading on the rod. Remember that the lock engages only after the cylinder stops at the stroke terminal. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve instead. If human safety depends on the load staying up, add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement matches must align on 80mm bore, 800mm stroke, back locker position, PT ports, and the -S magnet.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the retracted (rod-in) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB80X800S FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 80mm bore cylinder generates 2513N of push force and 2268N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 3518N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston stops at the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake. You can release it automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the release lever.
