Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X150

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X150 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 150mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X150

The AirTAC SAILF100X150 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the front cover. This mechanism secures the rod specifically at the extended stroke end, delivering robust power-failure safety. In the 100mm bore class, it generates 3927N of push force and 3681N of pull force at 0.5MPa, making it well suited for heavy vertical lifting tasks.

Because the lock occupies the front cover, the variable air cushion on that locker end is shorter at 24mm compared to the 36mm cushion on the free back end. The standard carbon steel rod provides durable service, and the barrel extrusion includes dual sensor grooves. While this unit ships without a magnet, specifying the -S option enables compatibility with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state switches.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X150 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Extended Load Holding

Secures heavy vertical lifts in the extended rod-out position during a power loss, preventing gravity-driven drops without requiring continuous live air pressure.

shield

Safety Gate Interlock

Holds safety gates and guarding firmly open at the end of the stroke, ensuring the barrier remains reliably positioned until the air-release port is actively pressurized.

factory

Clamp and Hold

Maintains positive clamping force on heavy fabricated components at the extended stroke end, keeping the part firmly secured for secondary machining operations.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X150 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 100mm bore when a 80mm cylinder (providing 2513N push at 0.5MPa) lacks the thrust to move your load, but a 125mm bore is physically oversized. Choose the SAILF front-locker variant when the extended rod-out position is the critical safety state; conversely, pick SAILB if you must hold the retracted rod-in position. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Remember that this lock engages only after the cylinder has stopped, functioning as a static holding device rather than a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For any safety-critical lifting application, add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement specifications require a 100mm bore, 150mm stroke, front locker position, PT tapered port threads, and your chosen mounting kit from the ISO 15552 compatible set.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X150 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, the 100mm bore provides 3927N of push force and 3681N of pull force. At 0.7MPa, the push force increases to 5497N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the rod reaches the extended stroke end in the front cover. It provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, not a mid-stroke clamp, and is released automatically via air pressure or manually via a lever.
