Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 225mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225

The AirTAC SAILF100X225 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the front cover. This spring-applied, air-released lock engages automatically when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, securely holding the load without requiring live air pressure. With a 100mm bore, it generates 3927N of push force and 3681N of pull force at 0.5 MPa, making it well-suited for heavy vertical lifting tasks. The cylinder uses a standard carbon steel rod with PT tapered port threads.

Because the lock occupies the front end, the variable air cushion on that side is shorter, measuring 24mm compared to the 36mm cushion on the free end. The lock releases automatically via air supply to the release port, or you can use the manual override lever. For position feedback, adding a magnet allows the use of AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors in the dual-side barrel grooves.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Secures heavy raised platforms at the extended stroke end, preventing crashes if air pressure drops during a power failure.

precision_manufacturing

Clamp and Hold

Maintains outward clamping force on heavy parts without consuming continuous compressed air, engaging the lock at the stroke terminal.

shield

Safety Gate Lock

Keeps protective machine gates extended and locked during operation, requiring an active air signal to unlock and open.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 100mm bore model when an application requires holding a substantial extended load, such as a 0.5 MPa push force of 3927N. If your process demands less force, stepping down to an 80mm bore yields 2513N of push force, while moving up to a 125mm bore provides 6136N. Select this SAILF configuration specifically because the load must be secured at the extended rod-out position; if you need to hold the retracted position, use the SAILB variant instead. Furthermore, if your design requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than a stroke-end hold, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Remember that this is a static holding lock that engages only after the cylinder stops moving, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve with this cylinder, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock, and always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. If human safety depends on the load remaining extended, add an independent safety measure. To replace this unit, match the 100mm bore, 225mm stroke, front locker position, 1/2 inch PT port, and the desired mounting style from the ISO 15552 options like TC, FA, or LB.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X225 FAQ

At a 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 100mm bore cylinder provides 3927N of push force and 3681N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 5497N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the rod reaches the extended stroke end. It holds the load statically without live pressure. To unlock, you supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever.
