Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X250

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X250 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 250mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X250

The AirTAC SAILF100X250 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the front cover. This mechanism engages when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, securely holding the rod-out position without requiring continuous live air pressure. In the 100mm bore class, it generates 5497N of push force and 3681N of pull force at 0.7 MPa, making it robust enough for heavy vertical lifting tasks.

A key design trait is the variable air cushioning; the locker end features a shorter 24mm cushion stroke compared to the 36mm cushion on the free end, ensuring proper deceleration without interfering with the locking mechanism. The carbon steel rod provides high tensile strength for demanding cycles. For position sensing, adding a -S magnet allows the use of AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors in the dual-side barrel grooves.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X250 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Extended Lift Holding

Maintains a raised platform securely at the extended stroke end during a power loss, preventing gravity-induced drops without needing live air pressure.

shield

Safety Gate Locking

Keeps heavy machine safety gates firmly open at the rod-out terminal position, engaging automatically when the piston completes its extension.

Clamp and Hold

Extends to clamp large components at the end of the stroke and holds the pressure firmly, relying on the mechanical lock rather than constant pneumatic force.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X250 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Select this 100mm bore cylinder when an application demands 5497N push force at 0.7 MPa and a fail-safe hold at the extended stroke end; if your load requires less force, the 80mm bore offers 3518N, whereas the 125mm bore provides 8590N for heavier demands. Choose the SAILF configuration specifically when the rod must be locked in the extended position, and select SAILB if the retracted position must be held instead. If the mechanism requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke terminal, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Remember that this lock is a static holding device, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Valve selection is critical: never use a fast-exhaust valve, and always utilize an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, because back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock. For any safety-critical lifting application where human safety depends on the load staying up, always add an independent secondary safety measure. Replacement specifications must match the 100mm bore, 250mm stroke, front locker position, 1/2-inch PT port, and desired mounting style from the ISO 15552 standard set. With a 250mm stroke, ensure adequate external guide rails to prevent side-loading damage to the carbon steel rod.

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X250 FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the push force is 3927N and the pull force is 3681N. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 5497N. The maximum operating pressure is 1.0 MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the extended stroke end. It provides a static hold, not a mid-stroke clamp or dynamic brake. You can unlock it automatically by supplying air to the release port or by using the manual release lever.
