Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X50

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X50 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 50mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X50

The AirTAC SAILF100X50 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock housed in the front cover. Because the lock resides at the front, it engages only when the piston reaches the fully extended stroke end, securely holding the rod out without relying on continuous live air pressure. In this 100mm bore class, the cylinder delivers a robust push force of 5497N at 0.7 MPa, making it well-suited for heavy load manipulation.

This unit utilizes a spring-applied, air-released locking mechanism: removing the release air drives a lock pin into the carbon steel rod, while supplying air to the release port unlocks it automatically. A critical design detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is notably shorter at 24mm compared to the 36mm cushion on the free end. Remember that the lock is a static holding device meant to engage after the rod stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving load.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Overhead Lift Hold

Secures elevated loads in the extended position during power loss, preventing accidental descent until air is restored.

Gate Safety Stop

Keeps heavy industrial gates locked in the open, rod-out state without consuming continuous pneumatic energy.

End-of-Stroke Clamp

Maintains a clamping force at the fully extended end of the stroke, holding the workpiece securely while machining occurs.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X50 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 100mm bore size when substantial thrust is required, stepping up from the 80mm bore which provides 3518N push at 0.7 MPa, or stepping down from the 125mm bore offering 8590N. Select the SAILF configuration specifically when the load must be secured in the extended rod-out position; if your application requires holding at the retracted end, the SAILB variant is the correct choice. For locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

When integrating this cylinder, never use a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. If human safety depends on the extended load remaining stationary, add an independent safety measure. For replacement matching, verify the 50mm stroke, front locker position, PT tapered 1/2 port threads, standard carbon steel rod, and the full ISO 15552 mounting interface.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X50 FAQ

At a 0.7 MPa operating pressure, this 100mm bore cylinder generates a push force of 5497N and a pull force of 3681N. It can achieve a maximum push force of 801 kgf at 1.0 MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically only when the piston reaches the fully extended stroke end. It can be unlocked automatically by supplying air to the release port or manually via the release lever.
