About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X200

The AirTAC BSAID125X200 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and an integrated clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released enclasp gripper secures the piston rod at any position along the 200 mm travel, delivering a static holding force of 8600 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is equal in both directions at 5734 N (0.5 MPa), and the second rod allows you to mount a counterweight, position flag, or secondary tool on the opposite end for dual-side guidance and anti-rotation.

It is critical to distinguish holding force from thrust: the 8600 N clamp force is a separate static metric from the 5734 N pneumatic thrust, so you must size the clamp against the static load, not the cylinder push force. Furthermore, the variable air cushions at stroke ends only decelerate the moving piston; the mechanical clamp is the actual holding device. The clamp locks only after the rod has stopped and cannot brake a moving load. Unlocking requires a third G1/8 enclasp port and balanced air pressures on both piston sides, or the rod may jump abruptly upon release.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

8600 N
static holding force (Ø125 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø125mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa6136 N5734 N
0.7 MPa (max)8590 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (8600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X200 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Secures heavy vertical lifts at any intermediate stroke position, preventing drops during power loss while offering equal push and pull thrust.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Holds a dual-sided workpiece or fixture rigidly in place during milling or inspection, using the 8600 N static clamp force rather than relying on air cushions.

build

Dual-Tool Assembly Station

Uses the second rod end to mount a counter-tool or position flag, maintaining balanced force both directions while locking the assembly mid-travel.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X200 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this double-rod clamp-lock cylinder when a process requires holding a load at an intermediate position and demands equal force both ways. If your application only needs end-of-stroke holding, a SAIL model suffices; if no locking is needed, a plain SAID is lighter. If you need higher holding capacity, note there is no larger bore in this series, but a smaller 100 mm bore offers 5500 N holding force and 3681 N thrust. The 125 mm bore uses 1/2 inch PT cylinder ports alongside the G1/8 enclasp port, and its 32 mm rod with an M27x2 thread handles substantial side loads. Mounting options for the double-rod body omit the FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, offering Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2. Without a magnet (-S), this unit cannot use CMSE reed or DMSE electronic sensors. For any safety-critical hold, add an independent mechanical stop, as the clamp cannot arrest dynamic motion and requires balanced pressure to unlock safely.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X200 FAQ

The BSAID125X200 provides a static holding force of 8600 N. The spring-applied clamp locks the rod at any position along the stroke, holding bidirectionally, but only after the cylinder has come to a complete stop.

The clamp is released via a third G1/8 enclasp port, but only when air pressures on both piston sides are balanced. If pressures are unbalanced, the rod can jump abruptly upon release. An independent safety measure is required for human-safety loads.
