About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X200S

The AirTAC BSAID125X200-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a rod out both ends and a built-in clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper engages the rod to hold the load securely at ANY position along the 200 mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 8600 N. Because it is a double-rod design, thrust is equal in both directions at 5734 N (at 0.5 MPa). Remember that this holding force is a separate metric from cylinder thrust; you must size the clamp's holding capacity against your static gravitational load, not the pneumatic push force.

This enclasp mechanism is bidirectional and locks whether the rod was extending or retracting, but it only engages after the piston has stopped moving—it cannot brake a moving rod. The clamp releases via a third G1/8 enclasp port, requiring balanced air pressures on both sides of the piston to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly upon release. The variable air cushions only decelerate the piston near stroke ends; the clamp is the true holding device. Fitted with a carbon steel rod and an -S magnet, it interfaces directly with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE solid-state sensors.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

8600 N
static holding force (Ø125 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø125mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa6136 N5734 N
0.7 MPa (max)8590 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (8600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X200S Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Axis Drop Prevention

Secures heavy vertical loads at any intermediate stroke position during a power loss, holding the mass with 8600 N of static force.

precision_manufacturing

Mid-Stroke Machining Hold

Locks the dual rods rigidly in place for intermediate drilling or inspection processes without cycling to the stroke end.

build

Dual-Side Tooling Carrier

Uses the second rod end to mount a counterweight or alignment flag while the clamp maintains absolute workpiece position.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X200S the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 125 mm bore clamp-lock cylinder when an intermediate-bore model (like the 80 mm version offering 2268 N thrust and 3600 N holding force) cannot safely support your static load. The BSAID125X200-S is selected over a plain SAID double-rod cylinder when power-loss safety or mid-stroke machining holds are mandatory, and it beats a SAIL stroke-end lock by clamping anywhere along the travel. As a double-rod unit, the second protruding rod is ideal for mounting a counterweight, position flag, or dual-side guidance to prevent rotation.

For replacement, verify the 125 mm bore, 200 mm stroke, PT tapered port threads, and the double-rod configuration. The mounting set for this double-rod body omits FB, CA, CB, and CR brackets, accepting only Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 styles. The robust 32 mm rod and M27x2 thread handle high side loads well, though any stroke over 300 mm still needs an external guide. Always ensure the cylinder has stopped and pressures are balanced before unlocking, and add an independent safety measure if human safety depends on the hold.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID125X200S FAQ

The built-in clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 8600 N. It locks at any position along the stroke and holds bidirectionally, but only engages after the cylinder has stopped moving.

The clamp unlocks via a third G1/8 enclasp port. You must balance the air pressures on both sides of the piston before releasing; otherwise, the rod can move abruptly. An independent safety measure is required for human-safety loads.
