About the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X25

The AirTAC BSAID80X25 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod design and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock. It secures the load at any position along its 25 mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 3600 N. Because it is a double-rod unit, the thrust is equal in both directions at 2268 N (0.5 MPa), and the extending rod from the rear provides dual-side guidance, anti-rotation, or a mounting point for a counterweight and position flag.

Remember that the 3600 N clamp holding force is a distinct quantity from the cylinder's 2268 N thrust; you must size the holding capacity against your static load, not the pneumatic push. The clamp operates via a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port and requires 0.15-0.7 MPa to release. Note that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke end, while the clamp itself performs the actual holding.

How the Clamp-Lock Holds

3600 N
static holding force (Ø80 mm)

A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.

Safety: the clamp locks only AFTER the rod has stopped — it is not a moving-rod brake. Unlock only when the pressures on both sides of the piston are balanced, or the rod can move abruptly. If human safety depends on the hold, add an independent safety measure.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø80mm)

PressurePush forcePull force
0.5 MPa2513 N2268 N
0.7 MPa (max)3519 N

Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.

Where the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X25 Is Used

vertical_align_center

Vertical Load Holding

Locks a heavy vertical workpiece at any point in the 25 mm travel, preventing gravity drops during air loss.

precision_manufacturing

Machining Position Lock

Holds a dual-sided fixture rigidly with 3600 N for precise milling or drilling without drift.

shield

Power Failure Safety

The spring-applied clamp engages instantly anywhere in the stroke during an outage to secure the mechanism.

Is the Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X25 the Right Clamp-Lock?

Choose this 80 mm bore if your application demands 2268 N of force both ways alongside a robust 3600 N hold. If your load is lighter, stepping down to a 63 mm bore offers 1402 N pull and a 2200 N hold. If you only need to hold at stroke ends, a SAIL cylinder suffices, but choose this BSAID to lock anywhere mid-stroke. For simple transfer without holding, a plain SAID is adequate.

The clamp locks only after the rod has stopped; it cannot brake a moving rod. Unlocking requires balanced air pressures on both sides, or the rod may jump abruptly. For safety-critical loads, add an independent external measure. This PT-port model uses a 25 mm rod with an M20x1.5 thread, supporting high side loads. It accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, and TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). As no magnet is specified, it will not support CMSE or DMSE sensors.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at any position?
  • ✓ Or stroke-end only → use SAIL
  • ✓ Holding force ≥ your load
  • ✓ Balanced-pressure unlock circuit
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X25 FAQ

The clamp-lock provides a static holding force of 3600 N. It locks at any position along the 25 mm stroke, but it only engages after the rod has stopped moving; it is not a braking device.

The clamp releases via a G1/8 port when air pressure is balanced on both sides. Releasing without balance causes the rod to jump. The double rod provides equal force both ways and allows mounting a guide or flag on the rear.
