The AirTAC Airtac BSAID Clamp Cylinder BSAID80X50S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 cylinder with a Ø80mm bore, 50mm stroke and a spring-applied, air-released clamp-lock that holds the rod at ANY position along its travel — with a static holding force of 3600 N.
The AirTAC BSAID80X50-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a double-rod layout and an integrated clamp-lock mechanism. A spring-applied, air-released gripper clamps the 25 mm carbon steel rod to hold the load at any position along its 50 mm stroke, delivering a static holding force of 3600 N. Because it is a double-rod design, thrust is equal in both directions at 2268 N (the 0.5 MPa pull value). Note that this holding force is a separate metric from thrust: buyers must size the clamp against the static load, not the cylinder's motive power.
A rod extending from both ends allows you to mount a workpiece on one side and a guide, counterweight, or position flag on the other, providing dual-side guidance and anti-rotation. The clamp uses a dedicated G1/8 enclasp port, separate from the 3/8 cylinder ports, and requires balanced air pressure to unlock safely. Remember that the variable air cushion only decelerates the piston near stroke ends; the clamp itself is what holds the load. The -S magnet pairs precisely with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC BSAI datasheet (ISO 15552). Operating pressure is 0.15–0.7 MPa (lower than a plain SAI). Port options: PT / G.
A spring-applied gripper clamps the rod and holds the load at any position in the stroke — not just at the stroke end (that is a SAIL) — and it is bidirectional: it holds whether the rod was extending or retracting.
| Pressure | Push force | Pull force |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 2513 N | 2268 N |
| 0.7 MPa (max) | 3519 N | — |
Equal force both directions (double rod). Rated to the 0.7 MPa operating maximum for this series. The clamp holding force (3600 N) is separate from cylinder thrust. Size with a margin.
Locks a lifted load at any intermediate height along the stroke with 3600 N of force, preventing drops during power loss without relying on live air pressure.
Uses the second rod end for a position flag while the clamp rigidly freezes the 80 mm bore tooling in place for milling or inspection operations.
Engages the spring-applied clamp instantly when air drops, holding the payload stationary mid-stroke until balanced pressure is restored for a safe release.
Choose this double-rod model when you need equal force both ways and dual-end tooling, such as mounting a part on one end and an external guide on the other. If you do not need the second rod, a single-rod BSAI80X50-S offers the same 3600 N holding force but simpler mounting. Stepping down to a 63 mm bore drops the holding force to 2200 N and pull thrust to 1402 N, whereas moving up to 100 mm increases the hold to 5500 N. This BSAID80X50-S locks at any position, unlike a SAIL cylinder which only holds at stroke ends; if no lock is needed at all, a plain SAID suffices.
The clamp locks only after the rod has stopped, so it cannot brake a moving load. It must be released with balanced pressures to prevent the rod from jumping abruptly, and safety-critical applications require an independent external measure. This unit uses PT tapered ports, a 25 mm rod with an M20x1.5 thread (which handles high side loads well), and accepts Basic, FA, LB, TC, TCM1, or TCM2 mounts (omitting FB/CA/CB/CR). The -S magnet supports CMSE and DMSE switches.
Quick checklist
It uses a spring-applied, air-released mechanism via a G1/8 port to grip the rod, holding the load at any stroke position with a 3600 N static force. The clamp engages only after the cylinder stops and cannot brake a moving rod.
The double-rod design provides equal thrust both ways (2268 N) and allows you to mount a workpiece on one end while using the other for a guide, counterweight, or position flag. It omits FB/CA/CB/CR mounts but retains Basic, FA, LB, and TC options.
