Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X200

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X200 is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 200mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X200

The AirTAC SAILF125X200 is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder equipped with a mechanical lock housed in the front cover. Because the lock sits in the front, it engages only when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, securely holding the rod out without requiring continuous live air pressure. A spring drives the lock pin into the rod automatically upon loss of release air, while supplying air to the release port or using the manual override lever unlocks it. With a 125mm bore, it generates 6136N of push force and 5734N of pull force at 0.5MPa.

This model features a standard carbon steel rod and PT tapered port threads. The variable air cushion at the locker end is specifically designed to be shorter at 24mm compared to the free end cushion of 40mm, accommodating the lock hardware. While the cushion decelerates the piston near the stroke terminal, remember that only the mechanical lock actually holds the load; the cushion never acts as a holding device.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X200 Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Lift Holding

Prevents heavy elevated platforms from dropping when air supply is cut, locking the rod securely at the extended stroke end.

conveyor_belt

Pallet Stop Gate

Holds a raised pneumatic stop gate open at the end of stroke during conveyor routing, maintaining position without continuous air consumption.

shield

Safety Guard Positioning

Keeps a heavy machine safety guard locked in the open, extended position during maintenance until air is deliberately supplied to release the lock.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X200 the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 125mm bore when your application requires heavy load holding at the extended stroke end, offering 6136N push force at 0.5MPa. If your system needs less force, stepping down to an 80mm bore yields 2513N push at 0.5MPa, whereas moving up to a 160mm bore provides 10053N. Select the SAILF configuration specifically when the rod must be safely locked in the extended position; choose SAILB instead if the load must be held retracted. If your design requires clamping and holding at an arbitrary mid-stroke position rather than the stroke terminal, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

The SAIL lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Never use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock. For any safety-critical application where human safety depends on the load staying up, always add an independent secondary safety measure. Replacement matches require a 125mm bore, 200mm stroke, front locker position, PT ports, and standard mounting options like TC or LB. Note that -S magnet versions are needed if using AirTAC CMSE reed or DMSE solid-state sensors.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X200 FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 125mm bore cylinder provides 6136N of push force and 5734N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0MPa pressure, it delivers up to 1251kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, holding the rod only at the extended stroke end after the piston stops. It unlocks automatically when air is supplied to the release port, or manually via the override lever. It is a static hold, not a mid-stroke clamp or dynamic brake.
