Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X220S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X220S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 220mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X220S

The AirTAC SAILF100X220-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the front cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it automatically secures the rod at the fully extended stroke end whenever the release air is cut, holding the load without live pressure. You can unlock it pneumatically or via the manual release lever. With a 100mm bore, it delivers 5497N of push force at 0.7 MPa.

This model includes a magnetic piston (-S) for position sensing with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic solid-state switches. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 24mm, which is shorter than the 36mm cushion on the rear cover. The standard carbon steel rod and M20x1.5 rod thread provide robust side-load resistance for heavy industrial lifting.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X220S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Extended Load Holding

Secures vertical lifts at the extended stroke end, preventing gravity-driven drops during a complete air pressure loss.

Clamp and Hold

Maintains clamping force on heavy workpieces at the rod-out position without continuously consuming compressed air.

Gate Safety Mechanism

Locks barriers and heavy gates in the open position, requiring an active air signal to safely release and close.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X220S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 100mm bore when a 80mm cylinder (3518N push at 0.7 MPa) lacks the force to lift your load, but a 125mm unit (8590N) would be excessive. Select the SAILF configuration specifically when the load must be held safely at the rod-out extended position. If your application requires locking at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, select the AirTAC BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

The lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops; it is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock—use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For any human-safety critical lifting, add an independent safety measure. To replace this unit, match the 100mm bore, 220mm stroke, front lock position, PT port threads, and the -S magnet. Given the 220mm stroke, ensure adequate side-load guidance to prevent rod binding.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X220S FAQ

At 0.7 MPa, this 100mm bore cylinder provides 5497N of push force and 3681N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0 MPa operating pressure, it delivers up to 801 kgf.

The spring-applied, air-released lock engages statically when the piston reaches the extended stroke end in the front cover. It holds the load without live pressure and unlocks via air supply or a manual lever; it does not clamp at mid-stroke.
