Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X25S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X25S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 25mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X25S

The AirTAC SAILF100X25-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the front cover. Because the lock sits at the front, it engages when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, securely holding the rod-out position. In the 100mm bore class, this cylinder generates 3927N of push force and 3681N of pull force at 0.5MPa, scaling up to 7068N push at 0.9MPa.

This model includes a magnet (-S) for use with AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors. A notable design detail is the variable air cushion: the locker end features a shorter 24mm cushion compared to the 36mm cushion on the free end. The lock itself is a static holding device that engages after the rod stops; it is not a dynamic brake for a moving load.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa3927 N3682 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

vertical_align_top

Extended Load Holding

Maintains a lifted platform securely at the extended stroke end during air pressure loss, preventing sudden drops.

Safety Gate Lock

Keeps heavy safety gates and machine guards locked in the open, rod-out position until unlock air is actively supplied.

Clamp and Hold

Delivers 3927N of clamping force at 0.5MPa and locks the part in place at the extended end without consuming live air.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X25S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 100mm bore when an application demands substantial end-of-stroke holding power without continuous air supply, stepping up from an 80mm bore (2513N push at 0.5MPa) for heavier vertical loads. Select the SAILF configuration specifically when the extended rod-out position must be maintained during a power loss. If your application requires the load to be clamped at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the extended end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice instead.

For replacements, verify the 100mm bore, 25mm stroke, front locker position, 1/2-inch PT port, and the -S magnet option. Crucially, do not use a fast-exhaust valve with this lock cylinder; back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock, so an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. If human safety depends on the load staying extended, always add an independent mechanical safety measure.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X25S FAQ

At 0.5MPa, this 100mm bore cylinder provides 3927N of push force and 3681N of pull force. At 0.9MPa, the push force increases to 7068N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the rod reaches the extended stroke end. It provides a static hold after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake. You can unlock it automatically via air or manually via a lever, but never use a fast-exhaust valve as back-pressure can release the lock.
