Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X1000S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X1000S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 1000mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X1000S

The AirTAC SAILF125X1000-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the front cover. Because this is a SAILF variant, the spring-applied, air-released lock engages when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, securely holding the rod out without requiring live pressure. At 0.7 MPa it generates 8590 N of push force, making it suited for heavy load manipulation.

This unit includes a -S magnet for position detection via CMSE reed or DMSE solid-state sensors. Note that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 24 mm, which is shorter than the 40 mm cushion on the free end. Also, as a 1000 mm stroke exceeds the 1500 mm standard maximum for this bore, it is built as a non-standard configuration, requiring external guide rods to prevent excessive side-loading on the long piston rod.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

0.5 MPa6136 N5734 N

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X1000S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 125 mm bore cylinder when an application requires holding a heavy load at the fully extended position; if less force is needed, an 80 mm bore provides 3518 N at 0.7 MPa. Select SAILF over SAILB specifically when the extended rod-out position must be maintained during a power loss. If your process requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, select the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder instead.

Remember that this lock is a static holding device that engages after the cylinder stops, not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. For safety-critical suspended loads, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement specifications: 125 mm bore, 1000 mm stroke, front lock, PT 1/2 port, -S magnet, and standard ISO 15552 mounting options.

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X1000S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa, the push force is 6136 N and the pull force is 5734 N. At 0.7 MPa, it provides 8590 N of push force, and up to 11045 N at 0.9 MPa.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging statically when the piston reaches the extended stroke end. It does not clamp at mid-stroke. To unlock, supply air to the release port or use the manual release lever.
