Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X125S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X125S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø125mm bore, 125mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X125S

The AirTAC SAILF125X125-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock integrated into the front cover. This mechanism engages automatically when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, securely holding the rod-out position without requiring continuous live air pressure. It delivers a substantial 6136N push force at 0.5MPa, making it well-suited for heavy-duty positioning tasks.

Because the lock engages statically after the cylinder stops, it is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod. The front locker-end air cushion is notably shorter at 24mm compared to the free end's 40mm. For position feedback, the integrated magnet works seamlessly with AirTAC DMSE solid-state electronic sensors, and the standard carbon steel rod handles high axial loads.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

vertical_align_top

Overhead Lift Hold

Secures heavy vertical loads in the extended position during power loss, preventing accidental descent.

Extended Clamp Hold

Maintains high-force clamping pressure at the rod-out stroke end without consuming continuous compressed air.

Gate Safety Lock

Keeps heavy safety gates and barriers firmly locked in the open, extended position until air is actively supplied to release.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X125S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 125mm bore when a 100mm bore (providing 3927N push at 0.5MPa) lacks the necessary thrust, but a 160mm bore (10053N push) would be excessive. Select this SAILF configuration specifically when the load must be secured in the extended rod-out position; choose SAILB instead if the retracted position needs holding. If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke end, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice.

Ensure the load is fully stopped before the lock engages, as this is a static holding device. Avoid using fast-exhaust valves, as back-pressure on the locker side can unintentionally release the lock; an independent-exhaust solenoid valve is required. For any safety-critical lifting application, always add an independent mechanical safety measure alongside this cylinder. Replacement requires matching the 125mm bore, 125mm stroke, front locker position, PT tapered port thread, and the -S magnet option.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)
  • ✓ Extra safety measure for people

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF125X125S FAQ

At 0.5MPa operating pressure, this 125mm bore cylinder provides 6136N of push force and 5734N of pull force. At the maximum 1.0MPa pressure, it can deliver up to 1251kgf.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, located in the front cover. It engages statically only when the piston reaches the extended stroke end, holding the load without live air. It can be unlocked automatically by supplying release air or manually via a lever, but it cannot clamp at mid-stroke.
