This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is SAUD40X250 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the SAUD40X250 in place of this model. The SAU replacement uses the same profile body, bore, stroke, force and SC-series mounting. It moves to the current CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensor switches (the SU used CS1-B / DS1-B) and adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.

Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X250

The AirTAC Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X250 is a double-acting profile-type standard cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 250mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and adjustable end cushioning. This model is discontinued — the drop-in replacement is the SAUD40X250, which matches its bore, stroke, force and mounting.

About the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X250

The AirTAC SUD40X250 is a double-acting, double-rod profile cylinder featuring a 40mm bore, 250mm stroke, and an extruded aluminum barrel that is more compact than an ISO 15552 unit of the same size. Because a rod exits both ends on a single piston, the push and pull force is equal both ways at 528N @0.5 MPa, 739N @0.7 MPa, and 950N @0.9 MPa. This SUD model is discontinued and is replaced by the drop-in SAUD40X250, which retains the exact bore, stroke, force, 1/4" port, and FA/LB mounting compatibility.

The double-rod design prevents piston rotation and allows the rear rod to drive a second tool simultaneously. For buyers, the equal both-ways force yields a safe working load of about 317N (60% of the 528N @0.5 MPa figure) and a vertical lift capacity of roughly 27kg with a 2:1 margin. Note this SKU lacks a magnet (-S) and cannot take a sensor; the SAUD replacement uses current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors instead of the legacy CS1-B/DS1-B. Air cushions only decelerate near stroke end, so use an external rod lock for load holding.

Where the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X250 Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Dual-Tool Transfer

Drives two opposing grippers simultaneously using both rod ends to pick and place parts from a single compact 40mm bore profile body.

conveyor_belt

Anti-Rotation Divert

Uses the equal both-ways force and inherent torsional rigidity of the double-rod design to push heavy cartons on a line without piston twisting.

Compact Vertical Lift

Lifts a 27kg fixture with a 2:1 safety margin using the 528N @0.5 MPa equal force, fitting into tight spaces where standard cylinders are too long.

Replacing the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X250 with the SAUD40X250

To replace the discontinued SUD40X250, select the drop-in SAUD40X250, which matches the 40mm bore, 250mm stroke, 1/4" port, M12x1.25 rod thread, and FA/LB mounting. When sizing both ways, verify the equal both-ways force fits your load: if 528N @0.5 MPa is insufficient, step up to the 50mm bore (825N); if oversized, step down to the 32mm bore (345N). Choose a double-rod cylinder when you need anti-rotation stability or want to drive two tools from one piston. For the 250mm stroke (which is under the 300mm side-load threshold), standard FA/LB mounts are appropriate. Because this SKU has no magnet, you cannot mount sensors; upgrading to the SAUD allows CMSG/DMSG/EMSG switches. Remember, air cushions only decelerate, so add an external rod lock for held loads.

Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD40X250 FAQ

Yes, the SUD40X250 is discontinued. The exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD40X250, which matches the 40mm bore, 250mm stroke, 528N equal both-ways force, 1/4" port, and FA/LB mounting.

The double-rod design provides equal both-ways force of 528N @0.5 MPa, 739N @0.7 MPa, and 950N @0.9 MPa. It operates at 30-800 mm/s, features a 1/4" port, and has 21mm adjustable air cushions at each end.
