This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is SAUD50X280 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the SAUD50X280 in place of this model. The SAU replacement uses the same profile body, bore, stroke, force and SC-series mounting. It moves to the current CMSG / DMSG / EMSG sensor switches (the SU used CS1-B / DS1-B) and adds the SAUF valve-integrated option.

Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD50X280

The AirTAC Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD50X280 is a double-acting profile-type standard cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 280mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and adjustable end cushioning. This model is discontinued — the drop-in replacement is the SAUD50X280, which matches its bore, stroke, force and mounting.

About the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD50X280

The AirTAC SUD50X280 is a double-acting, double-rod profile cylinder with a 50mm bore and 280mm stroke. Because a rod exits both ends on a single piston, push and pull force are equal at 825N @0.5MPa, 1154N @0.7MPa, and 1484N @0.9MPa. The extruded aluminum profile barrel is shorter than an ISO 15552 cylinder of the same bore. This SUD model is discontinued; the exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD50X280, retaining the same 1/4" port, M16x1.5 rod thread, and FA/LB mounting.

The double-rod design prevents piston rotation and allows the rear rod to drive a second tool or mount a sensor cam. This non-magnetic SKU cannot accept a piston switch, whereas the SAUD upgrade uses current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors (the SUD used legacy CS1-B/DS1-B). For sizing, the 825N @0.5MPa force yields a safe working load of roughly 495N, or a vertical lift capacity of about 42kg with a 2:1 margin. Note that air cushions only decelerate the load; an external rod lock is required to hold position on air loss.

Where the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD50X280 Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Dual-Tool Transfer

Drives two opposing grippers or tools simultaneously from both rod ends, ensuring perfectly synchronized part handling without adding external linkages.

conveyor_belt

Anti-Rotation Pusher

Pushes products along a belt using the twin-rod geometry to resist torsional twisting, maintaining precise alignment during the 280mm travel.

warehouse

Symmetric Diverting

Diverts packages from a central profile body, using equal force both ways to consistently sort items to either side of a sorting lane.

Replacing the Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD50X280 with the SAUD50X280

To replace the discontinued SUD50X280, use the SAUD50X280 drop-in equivalent, matching the 50mm bore, 280mm stroke, 1/4" port, and FA/LB mounting. Size both directions by checking the equal push/pull force against neighbor bores: the 40mm bore provides 528/739/950N, while the 63mm bore offers 1402/1962/2523N. Choose a double-rod cylinder when you need anti-rotation stability or synchronized two-tool driving. Because this SKU lacks a magnet, it cannot use sensors; upgrading to the SAUD adds CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensor compatibility. For this 280mm stroke, ensure the side-load vector stays within the bearing's rated capacity. The adjustable 21mm cushions decelerate the load but do not hold it; use a pilot-operated check valve or external rod lock for load holding.

Airtac SUD Series Double Rod Cylinder SUD50X280 FAQ

Yes, the SUD50X280 is discontinued. The exact drop-in replacement is the SAUD50X280, which matches the 50mm bore, 280mm stroke, 1/4" port, and FA/LB mounting. The SAUD also supports current CMSG/DMSG/EMSG sensors instead of the legacy CS1-B/DS1-B switches.

The double-rod design provides equal force both ways: 825N @0.5MPa, 1154N @0.7MPa, and 1484N @0.9MPa. It operates at 30-800mm/s, features a 1/4" port, and has adjustable 21mm air cushions at each end.
