Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X500S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X500S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø100mm bore, 500mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the front cover — it holds the load at the extended (rod-out) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X500S

The AirTAC SAILF100X500-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a built-in mechanical lock in the front cover. Because the lock is spring-applied and air-released, it automatically engages to hold the rod securely at the extended stroke-end whenever release air is cut, maintaining the load without live pressure. In this 100mm bore class, the actuator generates 5497N of push force and 3681N of pull force at 0.7 MPa. The integrated -S magnet supports position detection using AirTAC CMSE reed switches or DMSE solid-state sensors.

A key mechanical detail is that the variable air cushion at the locker end is 24mm, intentionally shorter than the 36mm cushion found at the free end. The lock is a static holding device that engages only after the piston stops at the stroke terminal; it will not arrest a moving rod or clamp at an arbitrary mid-stroke point. For applications requiring mid-stroke clamping, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct alternative.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the extended (rod-out) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the front-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X500S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Extended Load Holding

Maintains a raised platform or lifted tool securely at the rod-out stroke end during a power loss, keeping operations safe without relying on continuous air pressure.

factory

Press Outward Lock

Drives a press ram outward to apply 5497N of push force at 0.7 MPa and mechanically locks the extended position, preventing any unwanted retraction under heavy load.

shield

Safety Gate Stop

Pushes a heavy safety barrier outward and holds it open at the extended terminal, ensuring the gate remains securely locked until the release air is actively supplied.

Is the Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X500S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 100mm bore actuator when a machine cycle requires holding a load safely at the fully extended position, such as pushing a heavy platen outward and locking it during a power loss. If the application only requires 2805N of push force at 0.7 MPa, stepping down to the 63mm bore saves space, while moving up to the 125mm bore provides 8590N for heavier resistance. This SAILF variant specifically secures the rod-out end; select a SAILB model instead if the load must be held in the retracted position.

When integrating this lock cylinder, avoid using fast-exhaust valves and instead use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock. The carbon steel rod provides robust side-load capability, but with a 500mm stroke, utilizing the full ISO 15552 mounting interface set (Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, TCM2) with appropriate guide rails is recommended to prevent rod binding. For human-safety critical overhead lifts, always add an independent mechanical safety measure alongside the lock.

Quick checklist

  • ✓ Hold needed at the extended (rod-out) end?
  • ✓ Or lock anywhere → use BSAI
  • ✓ Independent-exhaust valve fitted
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT/G)

Airtac SAILF Front Locking Pneumatic Cylinder SAILF100X500S FAQ

At 0.7 MPa operating pressure, this 100mm bore double-acting cylinder generates 5497N of push force and 3681N of pull force. It operates at a speed range of 30-800 mm/s.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the extended stroke end in the front cover. It provides a static hold, not a dynamic brake, and is unlocked automatically by supplying release air or manually via the release lever.
