This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X10S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE20X10S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10S

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 10mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X10S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10S

Single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP20X10S extends its 10 mm rod with compressed air and retracts on the built-in spring when air is removed. This 20 mm bore unit delivers 127.4 N of push at 0.5 MPa (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, so you can size the load directly from those figures. It needs only one air line and starts moving from 0.2 MPa, the minimum pressure needed to overcome the spring. Note: the ASP family is discontinued; ASE20X10 is the current-production successor in the same bore, stroke and force class.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixtures, small guarding and compact pick stations. Because this model carries the -S option, the magnet is fitted and CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the hard-anodized aluminium body. As a working rule, plan on about 76 N of real work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rating), which corresponds to lifting about 3.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping in the ASE20X10.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE20X10S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

0.7 MPa190.2 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10S Is Used

compress

Small-part ejection

Ejects stamped terminals or plastic sprues from a micro die; the 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa clears a shallow nest and the spring retracts the rod instantly on air-off.

sensors

Presence check with feedback

With the fitted -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm rod extension on a 10 mm press-check station, giving a wired OK signal to the PLC without a separate prox.

precision_manufacturing

Compact fixture clamping

Clamps small PCB or bracket jigs inside a tight fixture plate where the short body, about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, is the only cylinder that fits.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10S with the ASE20X10S

For a 10 mm working stroke with one air line, this 20 mm bore gives 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa; step down to a 16 mm bore (78.4 N) for lighter clamping or up to a 25 mm bore (210.1 N) if the load grows. The spring returns the rod to its retracted home position on air loss but will not hold a mid-stroke position, so add an external stop if you need intermediate holding. The female M6x1.0 rod thread takes standard I/Y knuckles, and FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the same face. When replacing, order ASE20X10 and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE20X10S
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X10S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa it pushes with 127.4 N, rising to 190.2 N at 0.7 MPa; both figures are already net of the return spring. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof limit, air filtered to 40 um, speed 50-500 mm/s and a temperature range of -20 to +70 C. A practical working allowance is about 76 N at 0.5 MPa, enough to lift roughly 3.9 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

The ASP20X10S carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly on the body to signal rod extension; models ordered without -S have no magnet. Each end of the rod travel meets a fixed TPU bumper that decelerates the moving parts at the ends of stroke. On air loss the spring drives the rod back to its retracted home position; it does not hold an arbitrary mid-stroke position. This model is discontinued, and ASE20X10 is the drop-in replacement to confirm against ISO 21287 dimensions.
