This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X15 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE20X15 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X15

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X15 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 15mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X15 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X15

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP20X15 uses shop air to extend its rod and an internal spring to retract it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits retracted whenever pressure drops. This 20 mm bore, 15 mm stroke unit delivers 127.4 N of push at 0.5 MPa (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The short ISO 21287 class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot.

For sizing the job: plan on about 76 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small clamping lids, eject pins and part-present sensors on compact automation. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, the S45C rod is hard-chrome plated, and the female M6x1.0 rod thread accepts standard knuckles. Note the magnet is the optional -S code: this base model has none, so CMSE or DMSE switches only work if you order ASP20X15S. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE20X15, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE20X15 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø20mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa190.2 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X15 Is Used

compress

Bench-top press jig clamping

A 15 mm stroke pushing 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa clamps small brackets or PCB fixtures on an electronics assembly bench, with the spring retracting the plunger the instant the valve vents.

widgets

Small-part ejection from trays

On a packaging line, the short body ejects stamped terminals or blister cavities from a nest; the roughly 6 kg vertical-lift equivalent covers lightweight metal parts with margin.

sensors

Part-present check slides

Ordered with the optional -S magnet, the cylinder drives a 15 mm confirm-extend probe and CMSE or DMSE switches signal extend to the PLC on a sorting station.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X15 with the ASE20X15

At 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa, the 20 mm bore sits between the 16 mm bore (78.4 N) for lighter spring-return tasks and the 25 mm bore (210.1 N) when you need roughly 65% more force in the same compact envelope. Remember the spring always returns the rod on air loss, so it will not hold a mid-stroke position - pick the double-acting ACE family if you need positive control both ways. Choose the -S suffix if you want the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches, and match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounting to your fixture. Since the ASP is discontinued, order the ASE20X15 as the current drop-in and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your drawing.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE20X15
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X15 FAQ

Push force is 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa and 190.2 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 50-500 mm/s. Port is M5x0.8, rod thread is female M6x1.0, and the fixed TPU bumpers decelerate the rod at each end.

Order the ASE20X15, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 20 mm bore, 15 mm stroke and force class in a matching short body. Before swapping, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your existing DIN-standard fixture, and add the -S code if your CMSE / DMSE switches need the optional magnet.
