AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X15 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X15 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 15mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X15 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP20X15 uses shop air to extend its rod and an internal spring to retract it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits retracted whenever pressure drops. This 20 mm bore, 15 mm stroke unit delivers 127.4 N of push at 0.5 MPa (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The short ISO 21287 class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot.
For sizing the job: plan on about 76 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough for small clamping lids, eject pins and part-present sensors on compact automation. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, the S45C rod is hard-chrome plated, and the female M6x1.0 rod thread accepts standard knuckles. Note the magnet is the optional -S code: this base model has none, so CMSE or DMSE switches only work if you order ASP20X15S. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE20X15, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

At 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa, the 20 mm bore sits between the 16 mm bore (78.4 N) for lighter spring-return tasks and the 25 mm bore (210.1 N) when you need roughly 65% more force in the same compact envelope. Remember the spring always returns the rod on air loss, so it will not hold a mid-stroke position - pick the double-acting ACE family if you need positive control both ways. Choose the -S suffix if you want the magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches, and match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounting to your fixture. Since the ASP is discontinued, order the ASE20X15 as the current drop-in and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your drawing.
