AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X15SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X15SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 15mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X15SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP20X15SB extends its 10 mm rod with compressed air and lets the internal spring retract it, so only one air line is needed. At the 20 mm bore it delivers 127.4 N of push at 0.5 MPa (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. The male rod thread (B code) takes standard I/Y knuckles directly. For sizing, treat roughly 76 N as the usable working force at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note that this ASP series is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ASE20X15, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
A 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa seats snap caps on 50 ml cosmetic bottles; the 15 mm stroke matches the cap engagement depth exactly.
With the -S magnet fitted, a DMSE switch confirms the rod is retracted before the test fixture cycles, and the spring returns it on air loss.
The male rod thread bolts an I knuckle that folds carton flaps on a semi-auto packing line, needing only one solenoid valve and one air line.
Size between bores: the 16 mm ASP gives 78.4 N at 0.5 MPa, while the 25 mm bore reaches 210.1 N, so pick the 20 mm when your load sits between roughly 80 and 210 N. Because the spring retracts the rod on air loss, the cylinder always parks retracted and cannot hold a mid-stroke position. Mount with FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis brackets, and order the -S code if you need CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. For new projects, specify the ASE20X15 instead, as this model is discontinued.
Replacement checklist

It needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring, runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, moves at 50-500 mm/s, and works from -20 to +70 C. There is no pull force because the cylinder is single acting push with spring return.
The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the short ISO 21287-class format, cutting roughly 50% of the mounting length compared with an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, and a fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends to soften the stop. The port is M5x0.8, the rod end is male thread, and the model is discontinued with ASE20X15 as the current drop-in replacement.
