This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE20X20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X20S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 20mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP20X20S extends its 10 mm rod with air and retracts it by spring, delivering 127.4 N of push at 0.5 MPa (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring. This 20 mm bore unit is discontinued; the current-production ASE20X20 is the drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight fixtures and guarding.
Because the S code is in this model, the optional -S magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing. The fixed TPU bumper at both ends decelerates the rod, and on air loss the spring drives it home to the retracted position. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof, speed 50-500 mm/s, and the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a female M6x1.0 thread. At 0.5 MPa the 127.4 N push gives a vertical-lift equivalent of about 13 kg, so plan on lifting roughly 6 kg with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE20X20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 127.4 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 190.2 N |
Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ASP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting push, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 20 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×20 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa clinches small terminals and clips in electronics assembly, with the spring clearing the part the moment air is dumped.
A 20 mm stroke kicks lightweight cartons off a conveyor lane; the fitted -S magnet drives a CMSE switch to confirm each ejection cycle.
Air pressure holds the workpiece against a stop; if air fails, the spring retracts the rod so the operator can clear the part safely.
Size between bores: a 16 mm bore gives 78.4 N at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to 25 mm raises it to 210.1 N, so choose 20 mm when your load sits between those figures. The spring returns the rod on air loss but will not hold a mid-stroke position. FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts plus the fitted -S magnet for CMSE/DMSE switches make fixture integration simple. Before ordering, note the ASP20X20S is discontinued and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions of the ASE20X20 replacement.
Replacement checklist
Push is 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa and 190.2 N at 0.7 MPa, both net of the return spring. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), temperature -20 to +70 C, speed 50-500 mm/s, air filtered to 40 um, port M5x0.8, rod thread M6x1.0 female, stroke 20 mm on a 20 mm bore.
The short-body build saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it fits shallow pockets and guarded stations. Position sensing works through the optional -S magnet this model carries: mount CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches directly on the body. The model is discontinued, so confirm ISO 21287 dimensions on the ASE20X20 before swapping.
