AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X25 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE20X25 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X25 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 25mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X25 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ASP20X25 is a single acting push cylinder, spring return: air extends the 10 mm rod and the internal spring retracts it, so one air line is enough. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 127.4 N of push net of the spring (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), and it needs only 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring. The 20 mm bore takes an M5x0.8 port and a female M6x1.0 rod thread.
Its short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding. Net of spring, plan on about 76 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 7 kg vertically - halve that for a 2:1 margin and match parts up to about 3 kg. FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis brackets bolt to the same face. This model is discontinued; the current drop-in is ASE20X25 - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
Springs a small hold-down pad onto a machined aluminium bracket; 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa is enough for light locating clamps and the spring clears the part when air drops.
Kicks small cartons or blister trays off a conveyor at 50-500 mm/s; the short body fits inside the guarding where a full-length profile cylinder will not.
Pushes a sample vial off a nest in an automated analyzer; the female M6x1.0 rod thread takes a knuckle or a custom probe tip directly.
Size by force first: 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa suits light clamping and eject tasks; step down to a 16 mm bore (78.4 N) for gentler action or up to a 25 mm bore (210.1 N) when the load grows. The 25 mm stroke is within the standard range for this bore. Because the spring pulls the rod home on air loss, the cylinder returns to retracted rest and does not hold a mid-stroke position. Order the -S code if you want the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; without it no sensor can be fitted. For new designs, specify ASE20X25, the current replacement.
Replacement checklist
Push is 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa and 190.2 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, fluid air filtered to 40 um. Minimum 0.2 MPa is required to beat the spring.
