AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X5 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X5 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X5 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP20X5 uses a 20 mm bore and a very short 5 mm stroke: air extends the rod and the internal spring pulls it back home. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 127.4 N of push, already net of the spring, rising to 190.2 N at 0.7 MPa, and it starts working from just 0.2 MPa. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into cramped fixtures where a full-length body simply will not fit.
For sizing, treat roughly 76 N (about 0.6 of the rated push) as the usable working force at 0.5 MPa, which corresponds to lifting about 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The rod ends in a female M6x1.0 thread and the air port is M5x0.8. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE20X5, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. Note there is no magnet fitted - the optional -S code is required if you later want CMSE or DMSE switches.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to press small circuit boards onto test pogo-pin beds, and the 5 mm stroke keeps the clamp head travel tight and fast.
A quick 5 mm kick at up to 500 mm/s nudges tiny stamped or molded parts out of shallow nests on an automated assembly line, with the spring retracting the pin between cycles.
With the optional -S magnet and a CMSE switch, the short stroke can confirm a carton or tray is seated in a fixture before the next machine cycle starts.
At 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa, the 20 mm bore sits between the 16 mm (78.4 N) and 25 mm (210.1 N) sizes - step down for lighter eject or index tasks, up if your load needs more margin. Because the spring returns the rod on air loss, this cylinder cannot hold a mid-stroke position; it always parks retracted. Mounting brackets from the FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis family bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE sensing. Order the ASE20X5 as the current drop-in replacement.

The body is hard-anodized aluminium with an S45C hard-chrome rod and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, in a compact format roughly 50% shorter in mounting length than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. Sensing is not included by default: you must order the optional -S code to get the magnet, which then accepts CMSE or DMSE switches. Without -S there is no magnet and no switching is possible.
