This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE20X5B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE20X5B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X5B

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X5B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø20mm bore and 5mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE20X5B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X5B

The ASP20X5B is a single acting push cylinder, spring return, with a 20 mm bore and a short 5 mm stroke: air extends the rod and the internal spring pulls it back home, so only one air line is needed. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 127.4 N of push force already net of the spring (190.2 N at 0.7 MPa), and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The male rod thread from the B code bolts straight to your tooling.

This compact short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixture plates and small guarding where a full-length body will not fit. In practice, plan on roughly 76 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 6 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ASE20X5 (swap the P for an E), so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE20X5B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø20mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa127.4 N
0.7 MPa190.2 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X5B Is Used

compress

Micro clamping on SMD test fixtures

The 5 mm stroke and 127.4 N push at 0.5 MPa seat small PCBs into pogo-pin test nests on ICT fixtures, with the spring retracting the plunger the moment air is released.

sensors

Eject pin on bottle-filling stations

A short tap of air nudges underfilled bottles off a checkweigher conveyor; the spring return keeps the pin clear of the lane at rest, and the male rod thread takes a knuckle directly.

precision_manufacturing

Part present gate on a lathe bar feeder

The compact body fits inside the guard where a full-length profile cylinder cannot, pushing a 6 kg-class part-present flag about 5 mm into the sensor window.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X5B with the ASE20X5B

Size both ways: if 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa is more than your clamp needs, the ASP16X5B gives 78.4 N in the same stroke; if you need more, the ASP25X5B reaches 210.1 N. The 5 mm stroke sits well inside the standard range for bore 20, so no made-to-order stroke is involved. On air loss the spring retracts the rod to its home position - it does not hold a mid-stroke load, so add a separate stop if you need one. The B code gives a male rod thread and PT ports; the optional -S magnet code enables CMSE / DMSE switches, and without it no magnet is fitted. Order the ASE20X5 as the current drop-in replacement.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE20X5B
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP20X5B FAQ

It is a single acting push, spring-return cylinder: 20 mm bore, 5 mm stroke, 10 mm rod, M5x0.8 port. Push force is 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa and 190.2 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Operating pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, air filtered to 40 um.

It is a compact hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod and a fixed TPU bumper at each end that only decelerates the rod at the ends of travel. The short body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The ASP family is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE20X5, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.
