This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE25X20 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE25X20 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP25X20

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP25X20 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø25mm bore and 20mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE25X20 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP25X20

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP25X20 uses shop air to extend its rod and an internal spring to retract it, so only one air line is needed. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 210.1 N of push, already net of the spring, rising to 308.3 N at 0.7 MPa. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof, and the 25 mm bore takes an M5x08 port - actually M5x0.8 - on a hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod.

This compact short body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding. In practice, plan on about 126 N of real work at 0.5 MPa, and expect it to lift roughly 10 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ISO 21287 ASE25X20 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE25X20 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø25mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa308.3 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP25X20 Is Used

compress

Bench-top press fixture

The 210.1 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to seat small terminals or dowel pins in an electronics assembly jig, with the spring retracting the platen the moment air is released.

precision_manufacturing

Compact ejection station

Its short body, about 50% shorter than an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, fits inside a milling-vise stop that pushes finished 10 kg parts off a fixture between cycles.

packaging

Carton hold-down clamp

On a semi-automatic carton sealer, the 20 mm stroke presses a flap flat while tape is applied, and the spring return clears the head for the next box at 50-500 mm/s.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP25X20 with the ASE25X20

Size by force: the 20 mm bore gives about 127.4 N at 0.5 MPa and the 32 mm bore about 352.5 N, so the 25 mm bore at 210.1 N sits between them for light clamping and ejection work. Because the spring drives the rod home on air loss, this cylinder returns to the retracted position and will not hold a mid-stroke setting. Choose FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts to suit the fixture, and add the optional -S code if CMSE or DMSE switches are wanted - without -S there is no magnet. For new projects, order the ASE25X20 replacement instead.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE25X20
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP25X20 FAQ

It is a single acting push, spring-return cylinder: air extends the rod and the spring retracts it. Push force, already net of the return spring, is 210.1 N at 0.5 MPa and 308.3 N at 0.7 MPa. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring; the range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof. Speed is 50-500 mm/s and the port is M5x0.8.

AirTAC no longer produces the ASP family. The current-production replacement is the ISO 21287 ASE25X20, which swaps the P for an E and matches the same 25 mm bore, 20 mm stroke and force class. It is a drop-in in the same short-body format, but because this model is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before switching. FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts carry over, and the optional -S magnet code enables CMSE / DMSE switches.
