AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE50X20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X20S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE50X20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP50X20S uses shop air to extend its 16 mm rod and an internal spring to retract it, so only one air line is needed. At the 50 mm bore it delivers 875.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa (1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa), both figures already net of the return spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The -S code on this model means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs and guarding where a full-length body will not fit. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the rod, and the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod for long seal life. In practice the 875.5 N rating converts to about 89 kgf, so plan on lifting roughly 45 kg vertically for a 2:1 margin. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ASE50X20, and buyers should confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

The rod nudges a 40 kg carton sideways off the belt; with about 45 kg of practical vertical-lift equivalent the bore has margin, and the compact body fits under the side guard.
Size by real force, not bore alone: at 0.5 MPa the 40 mm bore gives 556.8 N and the 63 mm bore gives 1420.5 N, so the 50 mm sits squarely between them at 875.5 N. Because the spring drives the rod home on air loss, this cylinder returns to the retracted position rather than holding a mid-stroke load. This unit already carries the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches, and FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts are available. For new projects order the ASE50X20, the current drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Replacement checklist
