This model is discontinued
AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE50X20SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE50X20SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X20SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE50X20SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The ASP50X20SB is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 16 mm rod and the internal spring retracts it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits retracted whenever pressure drops below 0.2 MPa. This 50 mm bore unit delivers 875.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa (1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, through a 1/8" port. The B code gives a male rod thread, and the S code means the optional -S magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke sensing.
Built as a short-body compact cylinder, it saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight packaging heads and fixture plates. A fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the rod; it never locks or holds a load mid-stroke. In practice, plan on about 525 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 44 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Note this ASP series is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ASE50X20, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE50X20SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.
| Pressure | Push force (spring return) |
|---|---|
| 0.5 MPa | 875.5 N |
| 0.7 MPa | 1268.2 N |
Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.
| ASP | DIN compact cylinder (single-acting push, spring-return, discontinued). |
|---|---|
| 50 | Bore size in mm. |
| ×20 | Stroke length in mm. |
| S | Optional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet). |
| B | Rod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread. |
Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 20 mm stroke ejects a filled carton off a conveyor stop at 50-500 mm/s, with the spring pulling the platen back clear for the next box without a second valve.
About 525 N of usable clamp force at 0.5 MPa holds an aluminium bracket against a jig locator, and the male rod thread takes a knuckle for swiveling clamp arms.
Mounted under a sorting conveyor, the short body fits between frame rails and kicks small totes onto a reject lane; CMSE switches on the fitted magnet confirm each push.
Size the job both ways: if 875.5 N at 0.5 MPa is more than needed, the 40 mm bore gives 556.8 N; if the load grows, step up to the 63 mm bore at 1420.5 N. Because the spring returns the rod, this cylinder cannot hold a mid-stroke position under load - choose the double-acting ACE family if holding matters. Mounting options are FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis, and the fitted -S magnet pairs with CMSE/DMSE switches. Order the ASE50X20 as the current drop-in for this discontinued model.
Replacement checklist
Net of the return spring, this 50 mm bore cylinder pushes 875.5 N at 0.5 MPa and 1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof; below 0.2 MPa the spring wins and the rod retracts. Speed range is 50-500 mm/s, air must be filtered to 40 um, and the 1/8" port is sized by the bore.
Order the ASE50X20, the current-production successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 50 mm bore, 20 mm stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 compact family. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, and keep the -S magnet code if you rely on CMSE or DMSE switch feedback.
