This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE50X25S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE50X25S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X25S

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X25S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 25mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE50X25S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X25S

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP50X25S uses shop air to extend its 16 mm rod and an internal spring to retract it, so one air line is all the plumbing it needs. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 875.5 N of push already net of the spring (1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa), and it starts working from just 0.2 MPa. The -S code on this model means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight packaging heads and fixture plates. In practice, plan on about 525 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa (roughly 60% of the rating), which is a vertical lift of about 44 kg with a 2:1 margin - enough to lift or press a 40 kg die or pallet insert. A fixed TPU bumper at each end softens the stops, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries a 1/8" PT port, and the rod ends in a female M10x1.5 thread. Note: this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE50X25, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE50X25S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø50mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa1268.2 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

SOptional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet).
BRod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X25S Is Used

packaging

Carton ejector on a packaging line

Air pushes the 25 mm stroke to kick a finished carton off the conveyor lane; on air loss the spring retracts the platen so the next box is never blocked.

build

Spring-return clamp on a welding fixture

The 875.5 N push at 0.5 MPa holds a steel bracket against the jig while a welder works; cutting air releases the part automatically for safe unloading.

conveyor_belt

Gate pusher on a bottling sorter

A short 25 mm stroke diverts bottles between lanes at up to 500 mm/s, and the fitted magnet with a DMSE switch confirms the gate is fully home each cycle.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X25S with the ASE50X25S

Size by net force: if 875.5 N at 0.5 MPa is more than your job needs, the bore 40 version gives 556.8 N; if you need more, bore 63 reaches 1420.5 N at the same pressure. Remember the spring drives the rod home whenever air is lost, so this cylinder will not hold a mid-stroke position - pick the double-acting ACE family if you need to stop and stay partway. Mounting brackets FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis bolt to the standard face, and this -S unit already carries the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new builds, order the ASE50X25 instead: same bore, stroke and force class, currently in production.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE50X25S
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X25S FAQ

The quoted figures are already net of the return spring: 875.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa and 1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa for this 50 mm bore, 25 mm stroke cylinder. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof limit, air filtered to 40 um, speed 50-500 mm/s and -20 to +70 C operation. At least 0.2 MPa is needed to overcome the spring and start the stroke.

Order the ASE50X25, the current-production ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 50 mm bore, 25 mm stroke and force class in a short compact body. Because the ASP is DIN-standard, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions and your FA/FB, LB or CA/CB bracket fit before swapping. This -S model carries the optional magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches; on a replacement, add the -S code if you need switching.
