AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE50X25SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X25SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 25mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE50X25SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
Single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP50X25SB extends its 16 mm rod on air and retracts on the spring, so one air line is all the plumbing it needs. At the 50 mm bore it delivers 875.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa (1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The hard-anodized aluminium body follows the ISO 21287 short format, saving roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it drops into tight welding jigs and press fixtures a full-length body cannot reach. This model is discontinued; the current-production successor is the ASE50X25, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
The S code on this unit means the optional -S magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clamped straight onto the body for end-of-stroke signalling. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 16 mm rod, and a fixed TPU bumper at each end decelerates the moving parts. For sizing, treat about 525 N (roughly 0.6 of the 0.5 MPa push) as the usable working force, which corresponds to lifting about 45 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. Speed range is 50-500 mm/s across a 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) supply.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 875.5 N push at 0.5 MPa marks a batch of aluminium brackets or embosses serial numbers on a small bench press, with the spring retracting the tool between hits.
On a packaging line the rod clamps a folding carton flap against a fixture for taping; losing air simply releases the clamp, and the -S magnet signals clamp position to the PLC.
In a CNC fixture the 25 mm stroke ejects a finished bushing from its nest at up to 500 mm/s, and the male rod thread accepts a custom ejector pin.
At 50 mm bore this sits mid-range: a 40 mm bore pushes 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa if the load is lighter, while a 63 mm bore reaches 1420.5 N when you need more thrust from the same compact footprint. Because the spring always returns the rod to its retracted home position, the cylinder will not hold a mid-stroke position on air loss - pick a double-acting ACE if you need that. This unit already carries the -S magnet and male rod thread; FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis brackets match the ISO 21287 face. Order the ASE50X25 as the current replacement.
