This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE50X5B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE50X5B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X5B

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X5B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø50mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE50X5B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X5B

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the AirTAC ASP50X5B uses compressed air to extend the rod and an internal spring to retract it, so it needs only one air line and rests normally retracted. At the 50 mm bore it delivers 875.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa (1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa), figures already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The 5 mm stroke suits short clamp, eject and press-check motions where travel is minimal but force matters.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it drops into tight jigs and guarded stations. A fixed TPU bumper at both ends decelerates the rod; it never locks or holds a load, and on air loss the spring simply drives the rod home. This model is discontinued - the current-production replacement is the ASE50X5 (swap the P for an E), so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering. In practice, plan on about 525 N of usable push at 0.5 MPa, which lifts roughly 44 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE50X5B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X5B Is Used

compress

Short-stroke clamp on a CNC fixture

The 5 mm stroke and 875.5 N push at 0.5 MPa are enough to seat a swing clamp or top clamp on an aluminium machining fixture, with the spring releasing the part the moment air drops.

precision_manufacturing

Eject pin on an injection mold

Molders use this bore to kick small sprues or parts off the mold face; the compact body fits where a full-length profile cylinder cannot, and the spring retracts the pin between shots.

settings

Part-present kick lever on an assembly station

A 5 mm nudge is all a sensor-triggered lever needs to push a bracket into a nest; one air line, 0.2 MPa minimum to act, and the spring returns the lever for the next cycle.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X5B with the ASE50X5B

Size the bore against your load: the 40 mm ASP40X5B gives 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa, while stepping up to the 63 mm ASP63X5B reaches 1420.5 N - pick the 50 mm when your clamp or eject force sits between those. Because the spring retracts the rod on air loss, this cylinder cannot hold a mid-stroke position; if you need to park a load, choose a double-acting ACP-type (now ACE) instead. The B code gives a male rod thread on the 16 mm rod with a PT 1/8" port; no magnet is fitted, so order the -S code if you want CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. Mount with FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis. Replacement: ASE50X5.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE50X5B
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP50X5B FAQ

This 50 mm bore, 5 mm stroke single acting push cylinder gives 875.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa and 1268.2 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure, speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, and air filtered to 40 um. The rod is 16 mm with a male thread (B code) and the port is 1/8" PT.

AirTAC no longer produces the ASP family. The current drop-in is the ASE50X5, the ISO 21287 successor with the same 50 mm bore, 5 mm stroke and force class. Because the ASP was built to a DIN-standard compact format, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping. If you also need position sensing, order the ASE with the optional magnet code for CMSE / DMSE switches.
