AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE63X15 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP63X15 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø63mm bore and 15mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE63X15 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP63X15 extends its 16 mm rod with air and retracts it on the internal spring, so one air line is all the plumbing needs. At the 63 mm bore it delivers 1420.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa and 2044 N at 0.7 MPa, both figures already net of the return spring. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), from -20 to +70 C at 50-500 mm/s. This model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE63X15, which keeps the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight welding jigs and guarded stations where a full-length body will not reach. In practical terms, plan on about 850 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the rating), which is enough to lift about 72 kg vertically - or about 36 kg if you want a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis brackets bolt to the standard mounting face. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping from the DIN-standard original.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 1420.5 N push at 0.5 MPa seats small bearings and bushings in automotive sub-assembly presses, with the spring retracting the tooling the moment air is released.
A 15 mm stroke clamps steel brackets against a fixture stop on a robotic welding line; the short body fits inside the fixture frame where a full-length cylinder cannot.
With about 72 kg of vertical-lift equivalent, the cylinder pushes heavy machined castings off a transfer conveyor into a bin, retracting automatically between cycles.
Size by force first: 1420.5 N at 0.5 MPa covers clamping and pressing jobs up to about 850 N of real work; drop to an ASP40X15 (556.8 N at 0.5 MPa) for lighter clamps or step up to an ASP80X15 (2316.2 N) when the part resists more. Remember the spring drives the rod home on air loss, so the cylinder returns to the retracted position and will not hold a mid-stroke setting. If you need position feedback, order the -S code to enable CMSE or DMSE switches - without -S there is no magnet in the piston. Female M10x1.5 rod thread and PT ports are standard here; the discontinued ASP63X15 maps directly to the ASE63X15, so verify the ISO 21287 hole pattern before ordering the swap.
