AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE63X15B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP63X15B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø63mm bore and 15mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE63X15B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: compressed air extends the 16 mm rod and an internal spring retracts it to the home position, so only one air line is needed. The 63 mm bore delivers 1420.5 N of push at 0.5 MPa and 2044 N at 0.7 MPa, both figures already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. Note that this model is discontinued; the current-production replacement is the ASE63X15, which swaps the P for an E in the same bore, stroke and force class.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it suits tight jigs and guarded stations. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod with a male rod thread (the B code). Because this unit has no S code, no magnet is fitted and no switch can be mounted; order the optional -S magnet version if you need CMSE or DMSE sensors. At 0.5 MPa the net push of 1420.5 N corresponds to roughly 144 kgf, so plan on about 87 kg of usable vertical lift with a 2:1 margin.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 1420.5 N net push at 0.5 MPa clamps machined housings in a drilling jig, and the spring retracts the clamp the moment air is cut, leaving the part free for unload.
A 15 mm stroke is enough to press lids or flaps on snack cartons at up to 500 mm/s, with the short body fitting under low guarding where a full-length cylinder will not.
Air extends the rod to kick finished bushings off a fixture; the return spring clears the part automatically, so no second valve or air line is wired.
Size against the load: at 0.5 MPa this 63 mm bore gives 1420.5 N net of the spring; if your tooling needs less, the 50 mm bore offers 875.5 N at the same pressure, and the 80 mm bore steps up to 2316.2 N. The 15 mm stroke is a standard length for this bore, and speed runs 50-500 mm/s. Remember the spring returns the rod on air loss rather than holding a mid-stroke position. Pick FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis to suit the fixture, and add the -S code if CMSE / DMSE switching is planned. For new projects, order the ASE63X15 instead and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before the swap.
Replacement checklist
At 0.5 MPa the 63 mm bore pushes with 1420.5 N net of the return spring, rising to 2044 N at 0.7 MPa. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof, and 0.2 MPa is the minimum to overcome the spring. Air filtered to 40 um, -20 to +70 C, speed 50-500 mm/s, 1/8" port, male rod thread.
Not on this version. Without the S code there is no magnet inside the piston, so no switch can be fitted. Order the ASP63X15SB variant with the optional -S magnet to enable CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches. Also note this model is discontinued; the ASE63X15 is the current drop-in successor, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before ordering.
