Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X50S

The AirTAC Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X50S is a genuine double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder with a Ø63mm bore, 50mm stroke and a built-in spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock in the back cover — it holds the load at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end even when air is lost.

About the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X50S

The AirTAC SAILB63X50-S is a double-acting ISO 15552 profile cylinder featuring a spring-applied, air-released mechanical lock housed in the back cover. This lock safely holds the rod at the retracted stroke end, ensuring your load remains securely in place without relying on live air pressure. In the 63mm bore class, it generates 1559N of push thrust and 1402N of pull thrust at 0.5 MPa, utilizing a 20mm carbon steel rod.

Equipped with a magnet (-S), this model supports AirTAC CMSE reed and DMSE electronic sensors for precise position detection. The variable air cushion at the locker end is 21mm, intentionally shorter than the 30mm free-end cushion to accommodate the locking mechanism. For unlocking, you can supply air to the release port for automatic operation or use the manual release lever during maintenance.

How the Lock Holds

The lock is spring-applied and air-released: a spring drives a lock pin into the rod when the release air is removed, so the load is held at the retracted (rod-in) stroke end without live pressure. Supply air to the release port to unlock automatically, or use the manual release lever.

The lock engages only when the piston reaches the stroke terminal on the back-cover side — it is a static end-of-stroke hold, not a mid-stroke clamp and not a moving-rod brake. For locking at any position along the stroke, choose a BSAI clamp-lock instead.

Valve & safety notes: do not use a fast-exhaust valve with a lock cylinder; use an independent/individual-exhaust solenoid valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can release the lock. If human safety depends on the load staying held, add an independent safety measure.

Cylinder thrust is separate from the lock's holding capability. Actual usable force is lower than theoretical due to friction and back-pressure — size with a margin.

Where the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X50S Is Used

vertical_align_top

Vertical Load Holding

Secures elevated loads in the retracted position during a power loss, preventing sudden drops without needing continuous air pressure.

shield

Safety Gate Interlock

Locks a safety gate or guard firmly in the closed position at the stroke end, requiring an active air signal to release.

factory

Clamp and Hold

Holds a machined workpiece at the rod-in terminal position securely while operations complete, releasing only when the release port is pressurized.

Is the Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X50S the Right Lock Cylinder?

Choose this 63mm bore when a 50mm bore (offering 982N push at 0.5 MPa) lacks sufficient force, but an 80mm bore (2513N push) would be physically oversized. Select the SAILB configuration specifically when the load must be held at the rod-in position; if you need to hold the extended rod-out position, a SAILF front-locker variant is required instead. Because this is a static stroke-end hold, it engages only after the piston stops—it is not a dynamic brake for a moving rod.

If your application requires clamping at an arbitrary mid-stroke point rather than the stroke terminal, the BSAI clamp-lock cylinder is the correct choice. To maintain lock integrity, never use a fast-exhaust valve, as back-pressure on the locker side can inadvertently release the lock; always use an independent-exhaust solenoid valve. For safety-critical lifting applications, always add an independent mechanical safety measure. Replacement specifications: 63mm bore, 50mm stroke, PT 3/8 port, back locker, -S magnet, and mounting options including Basic, FA, FB, CA, CB, CR, LB, TC, FTC, TCM1, TCM2.

Airtac SAILB Rear Lock Cylinder SAILB63X50S FAQ

At 0.5 MPa operating pressure, this 63mm bore cylinder provides 1559N of push force and 1402N of pull force. At 0.7 MPa, the push force increases to 2182N.

The lock is spring-applied and air-released, engaging only when the piston reaches the retracted stroke end in the back cover. It provides a static hold after the rod stops, not a mid-stroke clamp, and is released automatically via air pressure or manually via a lever.
