This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE100X5SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE100X5SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5SB

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø100mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE100X5SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5SB

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the discontinued ASP100X5SB uses a 100 mm bore to deliver 3640.7 N of push at 0.5 MPa (5211.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring). Air extends the rod and the internal spring retracts it, so only one air line is needed and the rod parks retracted whenever pressure drops. The 5 mm stroke suits tiny eject or clamp moves where a full-length body would never fit: the short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder.

Built on a hard-anodized aluminium body with a 25 mm S45C hard-chrome rod and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends, it runs on 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) at 50-500 mm/s. This -S code carries the optional magnet, so CMSE / DMSE reed or solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signals. Because the ASP family is discontinued, plan the swap to the current-production ASE100X5 and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first. As a sizing rule of thumb, keep real work to roughly 2180 N at 0.5 MPa, which lifts about 185 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE100X5SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa5211.5 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5SB Is Used

compress

Bearing press-fit staging

The 3640.7 N push at 0.5 MPa seats small bearings or bushings in gearbox housings during assembly, with the spring retracting the platen the instant the valve vents.

precision_manufacturing

Fixture clamp on a CNC pallet

A 5 mm stroke is ideal for a swing-away hold-down on machining pallets; the short body tucks under guards where a full-length profile cylinder would collide.

forklift

Gate latch on an AGV dock

Air extends the latch pin into the dock plate; on power loss the spring pulls it clear so the automated guided vehicle is never trapped by a stuck latch.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5SB with the ASE100X5SB

At 3640.7 N push at 0.5 MPa this 100 mm bore sits at the top of the compact range; step down to the 80 mm bore (2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa) if the load is lighter, or move to a larger double-acting ACE body when you need powered return instead of a spring. Remember that on air loss the spring drives the rod home retracted - it will not hold a mid-stroke position. The B code gives a male 25 mm rod thread and the port is 1/4" PT; add FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis brackets as needed. The -S magnet on this model pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ASE100X5 as the current drop-in and verify ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before converting.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE100X5SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5SB FAQ

Push is 3640.7 N at 0.5 MPa and 5211.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure; below 0.2 MPa the spring wins and the rod stays retracted. Speed range is 50-500 mm/s on air filtered to 40 um.

No - the ASP family is discontinued. The current-production replacement is the ASE100X5 (swap the P for an E), a drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ASP is DIN-standard. This -S model carries the optional magnet, so CMSE / DMSE switches can be mounted for position signals.
