AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE12X10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 10mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE12X10SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
This is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 6 mm rod and the return spring retracts it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits retracted whenever pressure drops. The 12 mm bore delivers 40 N of push at 0.5 MPa (62.7 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and the short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The S code means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signalling.
Practical sizing: treat about 24 N (0.6 of the 40 N rating) as the realistic working force at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly a 2.4 kg vertical lift with margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, the rod end is male thread (B code), and the port is M5x0.8. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ASE12X10, a drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 40 N push at 0.5 MPa and 10 mm stroke are enough to strip small stamped or moulded parts off a locating pin on an assembly bench.
With the fitted -S magnet driving a CMSE or DMSE switch, the 10 mm stroke signals that a PCB or connector is seated inside a cramped jig.
About 24 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa is enough to hold a small sliding door or test fixture closed; the spring retracts it the moment air is lost.
At 40 N push (0.5 MPa) this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and eject tasks; step up to the 16 mm bore (78.4 N at 0.5 MPa) if you need roughly double the force, or downsize from a 20 mm bore (127.4 N) to save space. Because the spring returns the rod on air loss, it will not hold a mid-stroke position - pick a double-acting ACE if you need that. The male rod thread (B) pairs with I/Y knuckles, and FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the same face. Order the -S code when CMSE / DMSE switches are needed. Replacement: ASE12X10.
