This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE12X10SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE12X10SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10SB

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 10mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE12X10SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10SB

This is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 6 mm rod and the return spring retracts it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits retracted whenever pressure drops. The 12 mm bore delivers 40 N of push at 0.5 MPa (62.7 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and the short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder. The S code means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be mounted for end-of-stroke signalling.

Practical sizing: treat about 24 N (0.6 of the 40 N rating) as the realistic working force at 0.5 MPa, which is roughly a 2.4 kg vertical lift with margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, the rod end is male thread (B code), and the port is M5x0.8. Note this model is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ASE12X10, a drop-in successor in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE12X10SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø12mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa40.0 N
0.7 MPa62.7 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10SB Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Micro part ejection

The 40 N push at 0.5 MPa and 10 mm stroke are enough to strip small stamped or moulded parts off a locating pin on an assembly bench.

sensors

Presence confirm in tight fixtures

With the fitted -S magnet driving a CMSE or DMSE switch, the 10 mm stroke signals that a PCB or connector is seated inside a cramped jig.

compress

Light latch and detent action

About 24 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa is enough to hold a small sliding door or test fixture closed; the spring retracts it the moment air is lost.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10SB with the ASE12X10SB

At 40 N push (0.5 MPa) this 12 mm bore suits light clamping and eject tasks; step up to the 16 mm bore (78.4 N at 0.5 MPa) if you need roughly double the force, or downsize from a 20 mm bore (127.4 N) to save space. Because the spring returns the rod on air loss, it will not hold a mid-stroke position - pick a double-acting ACE if you need that. The male rod thread (B) pairs with I/Y knuckles, and FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the same face. Order the -S code when CMSE / DMSE switches are needed. Replacement: ASE12X10.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE12X10SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10SB FAQ

Push is 40 N at 0.5 MPa and 62.7 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Air extends the rod; the spring retracts it, so minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa. Plan on about 24 N of real work (roughly a 2.4 kg vertical lift with a 2:1 margin). Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, fluid air filtered to 40 um.

The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, with a hard-anodized aluminium body, S45C hard-chrome rod, M5x08 port and a fixed TPU bumper at each end. The ASP12X10SB is discontinued; the current-production drop-in is the ASE12X10 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.
