This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE40X10 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 10mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP40X10 uses a 40 mm bore and a 10 mm stroke in a short DIN-standard compact body. Air extends the rod and the internal spring retracts it, so only one air line is needed and the rod sits retracted whenever pressure drops below 0.2 MPa. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 556.8 N of push, already net of the spring, rising to 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa. The hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod keeps the envelope tight - roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder - which is why it suits cramped jigs and slide fixtures.

Plan on about 334 N of real work at 0.5 MPa rather than the full rating, which corresponds to lifting roughly 28 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The fixed TPU bumper at each end simply decelerates the rod; it never locks or holds a load mid-stroke. This model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ASE40X10 (swap the P for an E), so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. The optional -S magnet code enables CMSE / DMSE switches; without it no magnet is fitted.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE40X10 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø40mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa556.8 N
0.7 MPa808.1 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10 Is Used

compress

Press-fit of bushings into housings

The 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa seats small bushings or dowels in a 10 mm advance, and the spring return clears the part the moment air is released.

precision_manufacturing

Clamping on a compact drilling jig

With about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, the short body clamps workpieces inside tight drill jigs where a full-length body will not fit.

packaging

Ejecting finished cartons from a chute

A single air line pushes the carton out at up to 500 mm/s and the spring retracts the rod automatically, keeping the ejector head clear between cycles.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10 with the ASE40X10

At 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa this bore sits between the 32 mm ASP (352.5 N) and the 50 mm ASP (875.5 N), so size up if your fixture needs more than about 334 N of usable force. The 10 mm stroke is well inside the standard range for this bore. Choose the female M8x1.25 rod thread as coded, or add B for male thread; FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the same compact face. If you need position feedback, order the -S version for CMSE / DMSE switches. For new designs, specify the ASE40X10 instead - this ASP is discontinued.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE40X10
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X10 FAQ

Push is 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. It is a single acting push cylinder: air extends the rod, the spring retracts it, and at least 0.2 MPa is needed to overcome the spring. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, port 1/8", rod 12 mm with female M8x1.25 thread.

Order the ASE40X10, the ISO 21287 successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 40 mm bore, 10 mm stroke and force class in a current-production compact body. Because the ASP was built to a DIN-standard compact format, confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping. If you also need position sensing, check that the ASE version carries the magnet option for CMSE / DMSE switches.
