AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X15 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE40X15 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X15 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 15mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X15 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP40X15 extends its 12 mm rod with air and retracts it by spring, so one air line is all the plumbing it needs. At the 40 mm bore it delivers 556.8 N of push at 0.5 MPa (808.1 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the return spring. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight jigs, guards and gantries. Note: this model is DISCONTINUED - the current-production replacement is the ASE40X15.
Practical sizing: treat roughly 0.6 of the rated push as usable work, so plan on about 334 N, equivalent to lifting around 34 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries a fixed TPU bumper at both ends, the S45C rod is hard-chrome plated with a female M8x1.25 thread, and the port is 1/8". The magnet is the optional -S code - without it no CMSE or DMSE switch can be fitted. Operating range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 50-500 mm/s speed.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
With 556.8 N of push at 0.5 MPa, the 15 mm stroke is enough to seat small aluminium brackets into a drill-press jig and release instantly when air drops.
A short 15 mm kick is exactly what a conveyor diverter needs to nudge a 30 kg carton sideways at a transfer plate, with the spring clearing the lane every cycle.
Order the -S magnet and a DMSE switch to confirm the probe has fully extended into a PCB test nest, then the spring retracts it for part removal.
Compare both directions before ordering: the 32 mm bore gives 352.5 N at 0.5 MPa if your load is lighter, while the 50 mm bore reaches 875.5 N for heavier clamping. Because the spring drives the rod home on air loss, this cylinder returns to the retracted position rather than holding a mid-stroke pose. FA/FB flange, LB foot and CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the standard face, and the optional -S magnet enables CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ASE40X15 instead - it is the current drop-in for this discontinued model, but confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first since the ASP follows the DIN-standard footprint.

Switches are possible only when you order the optional -S magnet code, which lets CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches clamp onto the body - the base ASP40X15 has no magnet at all. Since this model is discontinued, check the ASE40X15 as the current equivalent.
