AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X15S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE40X15S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X15S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 15mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X15S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.
A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP40X15S extends its 12 mm rod with air and retracts it by spring, so one air line is all the plumbing takes. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 556.8 N of push already net of the spring (808.1 N at 0.7 MPa), and it needs at least 0.2 MPa to overcome the spring. This model carries the optional -S magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signalling.
The short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixtures, guards and slide assemblies. A hard-anodized aluminium body pairs with an S45C hard-chrome rod, and fixed TPU bumpers at both ends absorb the end-of-travel impact. Note the ASP family is discontinued: the current-production replacement is the ASE40X15, a drop-in in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping. As a rule of thumb, plan on about 334 N (roughly 34 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin) of real work from the 0.5 MPa rating.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).
The 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa crimps small wire terminals and connectors on an electronics assembly bench, with the spring retracting the tool between cycles.
A 15 mm stroke is enough to push finished plastic caps off a molding nest, and the spring return clears the part automatically when air is released.
With the -S magnet fitted, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the rod has fully extended against a pallet stop on a packaging line, signalling a good clamp.
Size the load against 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa: if your application needs less force, the ASP32X25 (352.5 N at 0.5 MPa) saves space; if you need more, step up to the ASP50X25 (875.5 N at 0.5 MPa). Remember the spring returns the rod to the retracted home position on air loss - it will not hold a mid-stroke position, so add an external stop if you need one. The female M8x1.25 rod thread and PT ports suit standard fittings, and FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounting can be ordered. Since the ASP is discontinued, order the ASE40X15 as the current drop-in and verify the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions first.
Replacement checklist
