This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X25S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE40X25S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25S

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 25mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X25S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25S

The ASP40X25S is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 12 mm rod and the internal spring retracts it, so only one air line is needed and 0.2 MPa is enough to overcome the spring. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 556.8 N of push net of the spring (808.1 N at 0.7 MPa), and the fitted -S magnet accepts CMSE or DMSE switches for end-of-stroke detection. Its short ISO 21287-class body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into tight fixtures and guarding.

Practically, plan on about 334 N of usable work at 0.5 MPa (roughly 0.6 of the rated push), which corresponds to lifting about 28 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin. The hard-anodized aluminium body carries the S45C hard-chrome rod, fixed TPU bumpers sit at both ends, and the rod end is female M8x1.25 with a 1/8" PT supply port. Note that this model is discontinued: the current-production drop-in is the ASE40X25, so confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE40X25S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø40mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa556.8 N
0.7 MPa808.1 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25S Is Used

compress

Bench-top press fixture

The 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa is enough to seat small bearings or press dowel pins in a compact jig, and the 25 mm stroke keeps the tooling short.

packaging

Carton kick-off on a packing line

One air line extends the rod to nudge a carton off a conveyor spur; the spring retracts it instantly when the valve vents, ready for the next box.

sensors

Presence check in a test gantry

With the fitted -S magnet, CMSE or DMSE switches confirm the rod has fully extended against a part before the test cycle is allowed to start.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25S with the ASE40X25S

Size the bore against your load: the 32 mm bore gives 352.5 N at 0.5 MPa while stepping up to the 50 mm bore yields 875.5 N, so the 40 mm sits between them for mid-range clamping and ejecting. Because the spring drives the rod home on air loss, this cylinder returns to the retracted position rather than holding a mid-stroke pose. Mount it on FA/FB flanges, an LB foot or a CA/CB clevis, and keep the -S magnet in mind if CMSE/DMSE position feedback is planned. For new builds, specify the ASE40X25 instead, as this ASP version is discontinued.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE40X25S
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25S FAQ

Push is 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. It runs on air filtered to 40 um at 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), from -20 to +70 C, at 50-500 mm/s. The bore is 40 mm, stroke 25 mm, rod 12 mm, port 1/8" PT, rod thread female M8x1.25.

The return spring drives the rod straight back to the retracted home position, so it does not hold an arbitrary mid-stroke position; the fixed TPU bumpers at each end simply decelerate the rod at the ends of travel. This model is discontinued, and the current-production drop-in is the ASE40X25 in the same bore, stroke and force class - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.
