This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE40X25SB — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE40X25SB in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25SB

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25SB is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø40mm bore and 25mm stroke, 1/8" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE40X25SB (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25SB

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP40X25SB extends its 12 mm rod on air and retracts on the built-in spring, so one air line is all the plumbing it needs. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 556.8 N of push net of the spring (808.1 N at 0.7 MPa), which lifts roughly 56 kgf; halve that for a 2:1 margin and you can raise about 28 kg vertically. The male rod thread (B code) and the fitted -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches are both part of this ordering code. It runs on 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) air filtered to 40 um at 50-500 mm/s.

This model is discontinued. The current-production drop-in is the ASE40X25 (swap the P for an E), which keeps the same bore, stroke and force class. Its short ISO 21287-style body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into tight guards and jigs; confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, since the ASP follows the DIN-standard footprint. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, and the hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE40X25SB (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø40mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)

0.7 MPa808.1 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25SB Is Used

vertical_align_bottom

Pallet ejector on a case packer

The 556.8 N push at 0.5 MPa nudges filled cartons off a 25 mm ejector plate, and the spring retracts the platen the moment the valve vents - no second solenoid valve required.

precision_manufacturing

Fixture clamp on a CNC jig

One air line clamps a machined aluminum bracket with about 334 N of usable force at 0.5 MPa; the male rod thread takes an I knuckle directly, and the -S magnet signals clamp-made to the PLC via a DMSE switch.

packaging

Push-off arm on a labeling head

At 50-500 mm/s the rod sweeps mislabeled bottles off a conveyor lane within the short 25 mm stroke, and the fixed TPU bumper quiets the return stroke at both ends.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25SB with the ASE40X25SB

Size by force: the 40 mm bore gives 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa, while a 32 mm bore yields 352.5 N and a 50 mm bore 875.5 N at the same pressure - pick the smaller bore if your load sits under 350 N. Remember the spring drives the rod home on air loss, so it will not hold a mid-stroke position. Match FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis brackets to your fixture, and order CMSE or DMSE switches only because this code already carries the optional -S magnet. For new designs, specify the ASE40X25 instead.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE40X25SB
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP40X25SB FAQ

Net of the return spring it pushes 556.8 N at 0.5 MPa and 808.1 N at 0.7 MPa. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa (28 psi) to overcome the spring; the range is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with a 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof pressure. Air must be filtered to 40 um, speed is 50-500 mm/s, and the port is 1/8" (PT).

Order the ASE40X25, the current-production successor: swap the P for an E and you get the same 40 mm bore, 25 mm stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 compact family. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping, and note the magnet remains an option on the ASE - this ASP code already includes the -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches.
