This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE80X20S — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE80X20S in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X20S

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X20S is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø80mm bore and 20mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE80X20S (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X20S

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP80X20S uses shop air to extend its 20 mm rod while an internal spring pulls it back home, so one air line is all the plumbing needs. At the 80 mm bore this version delivers 2316.2 N of push at 0.5 MPa (3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa), figures already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. The -S code means the optional magnet is fitted, so CMSE or DMSE switches can be clipped on for end-of-stroke signals. Note that the ASP family is discontinued; the current-production successor is the ASE80X20.

The short ISO 21287 body saves roughly 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why this class fits inside tight press fixtures and guarding where a full-length body cannot. A hard-anodized aluminium body carries an S45C hard-chrome rod, with fixed TPU bumpers at both ends. For sizing, treat about 1390 N (0.6 of the 0.5 MPa rating) as the realistic working force, which lifts roughly 118 kg vertically with a 2:1 margin - enough headroom for a heavy die cart door or a clamping bridge.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE80X20S (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø80mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa2316.2 N
0.7 MPa3321.5 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X20S Is Used

compress

Bench press clamping

The 2316.2 N push at 0.5 MPa seats a steel bracket into a welding jig on a 20 mm clamp stroke, with the spring retracting the tool the moment air is dumped.

factory

Die cart door actuation

One air line swings a heavy stamping-press guard open; the return spring guarantees the door shuts safely on power loss, and the fitted magnet confirms closed position via a DMSE switch.

packaging

Case ejector on a palletizer

A short 20 mm kick at 3321.5 N (0.7 MPa) nudges a filled carton off a conveyor stop, cycling at 50-500 mm/s inside the guard's narrow envelope.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X20S with the ASE80X20S

At 80 mm bore you are near the top of the compact range: 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa versus 1420.5 N for a 63 mm bore, while a 100 mm bore gives 3640.7 N if you need more. Because the spring returns the rod on air loss, the cylinder always parks retracted and will not hold a mid-stroke position - pick a double-acting ACE if you need that. FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis mounts bolt to the same face, and the fitted -S magnet pairs with CMSE / DMSE switches. Order the ASE80X20 as the current replacement and confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE80X20S
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP80X20S FAQ

Push force is 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa and 3321.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi), proof pressure 1.5 MPa (215 psi), speed 50-500 mm/s, and the 1/4" port suits the 80 mm bore. The rod is 20 mm with an M12x1.75 female thread.

The short ISO 21287 body cuts about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into cramped fixtures. This -S version carries the optional magnet, so CMSE or DMSE reed or solid-state switches mount directly for end-of-stroke detection. The ASP is discontinued; the drop-in successor is the ASE80X20 - confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before converting.
