This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE100X5B — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE100X5B in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5B

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5B is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø100mm bore and 5mm stroke, 1/4" air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE100X5B (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5B

This is a single acting push cylinder with spring return: air extends the 25 mm rod and the internal spring retracts it, so one air line is all the plumbing needs. The 100 mm bore delivers 3640.7 N of push at 0.5 MPa (5211.5 N at 0.7 MPa), already net of the spring, and it starts moving from just 0.2 MPa. It is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is the ASE100X5, so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before you swap.

The short ISO 21287 body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, which is why it slots into cramped press fixtures and clamping nests. For sizing, treat roughly 2184 N (about 223 kg) as the usable push at 0.5 MPa, and expect around 185 kg of vertical lift capability with a 2:1 margin. A fixed TPU bumper sits at both ends, the hard-anodized aluminium body carries a 1/4" PT port, and the B code gives a male rod thread. Note: no magnet is fitted on this code, so position switches cannot be mounted unless you order the optional -S version for CMSE / DMSE sensors.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE100X5B (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø100mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa3640.7 N
0.7 MPa5211.5 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5B Is Used

compress

Short-stroke press nest

A 5 mm kiss-press stroke with 3640.7 N at 0.5 MPa seats bearings or snaps a terminal into a housing on an electronics assembly line, with the spring retracting the tool the moment air drops.

widgets

Fixture part-ejector

Mounted under a machining fixture, the 100 mm bore nudges a finished aluminium casting off its locating pin; one solenoid valve and one air line handle the whole cycle at 50-500 mm/s.

pan_tool

Gate or pawl actuator

On a packaging machine, the short push stroke flips a locking pawl or stops a product lane; spring return guarantees the pawl drops back to the safe position whenever pressure is lost.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5B with the ASE100X5B

Size against the neighbours: a 80 mm bore gives 2316.2 N at 0.5 MPa while this 100 mm bore reaches 3640.7 N, so step up only if your clamp or press tool truly needs the extra force. The 5 mm stroke suits short-throw work like part presence, ejection or kiss-pressing; longer single-acting strokes exist in the family but keep them short. On air loss the spring drives the rod home to the retracted position - it will not hold a mid-stroke load. Mount with FA/FB flange, LB foot or CA/CB clevis, and if you need end-of-stroke detection order the -S magnet code for CMSE / DMSE switches. Replacement: ASE100X5, same bore, stroke and force class - verify the ISO 21287 footprint first.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE100X5B
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP100X5B FAQ

Push force is 3640.7 N at 0.5 MPa and 5211.5 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Working pressure is 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) with 1.5 MPa (215 psi) proof, air filtered to 40 um, speed 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C. The bore is 100 mm, stroke 5 mm, rod 25 mm, port 1/4" PT, and the B code means a male rod thread. In practice plan on about 2184 N (roughly 223 kg of push) at 0.5 MPa, or about 185 kg of vertical lift with a 2:1 margin.

Yes, the ASP family is out of production; the current-production replacement is the ASE100X5 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class in the ISO 21287 short body - confirm the mounting dimensions against your fixture before swapping. On this ASP100X5B code no magnet is fitted, so no switch can be mounted; if you need position detection, order the optional -S magnet version, which accepts CMSE or DMSE reed and solid-state switches.
