This model is discontinued

AirTAC has phased out the MAL series. The drop-in replacement is ASE12X10 — same bore, stroke, output force, port and mounting, so it fits the same application. Simply order the ASE12X10 in place of this model. The ACE replacement is a current-production ISO 21287 compact cylinder in the same bore, stroke and force class, with a matching short body and the same mounting-accessory family, so it fits the same envelope. Confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before ordering.

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10

The AirTAC Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10 is a single acting, push (spring return) DIN-standard tight/compact air cylinder with a Ø12mm bore and 10mm stroke, M5×0.8 air ports and a hard-anodized aluminium body. This model is discontinued — the current-production replacement is the ASE12X10 (ISO 21287 ACE), in the same bore, stroke and force class.

About the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10

A single acting push cylinder with spring return, the ASP12X10 uses shop air at 0.2-1.0 MPa (28-145 psi) to extend its 6 mm rod over a 10 mm stroke, and an internal spring pulls it home when air is cut. At 0.5 MPa it delivers 40 N of push force already net of the spring (62.7 N at 0.7 MPa), which works out to roughly 24 N of usable working force - about 2 kg lifted vertically with a 2:1 margin. The short ISO 21287-class body saves about 50% of the mounting length of an ISO 15552 profile cylinder, so it slots into slim fixtures and small assemblies where a full-length body will not fit.

Built on a hard-anodized aluminium body with an S45C hard-chrome rod, a fixed TPU bumper at each end, and an M5x0.8 air port. The rod end is female M3x0.5. Note that no magnet is fitted on this code: the optional -S magnet is what enables CMSE / DMSE switch sensing. This model is discontinued - the current-production drop-in is ASE12X10 (swap the P for an E), so confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping.

Specifications follow the official AirTAC ACP datasheet (now discontinued). The ASE12X10 (ISO 21287) carries the same bore/stroke/force class; confirm mounting-interface dimensions against the ACE datasheet before installation. Rod type: female thread (blank) or male thread (B). Thread options: PT (blank) / G.

Theoretical Output Force (Ø12mm)

PressurePush force (spring return)
0.5 MPa40.0 N
0.7 MPa62.7 N

Single-acting push: air extends the rod; the return spring retracts it. Forces already net the spring; minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa.

SOptional built-in magnet for sensor position sensing (omit for no magnet).
BRod type: B = male thread; blank = female thread.

Replacement mapping (swap P for E): ACP→ACE, ASP→ASE, ATP→ATE, ACPD→ACED, ACPJ→ACEJ. ACP-family: ACP (double acting), ASP / ATP (single acting push / pull), ACPD (double rod), ACPJ (adjustable stroke).

Where the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10 Is Used

precision_manufacturing

Micro part ejection

The 40 N push at 0.5 MPa (net of spring) is enough to nudge small clips or pins off a nest in an electronics assembly head, and the spring clears the part automatically each cycle.

science

Lab sample clamping

A 10 mm stroke with about 2 kg of vertical lift capacity suits light hold-down of vials or slides under a dispensing head; one M5x0.8 air line keeps tubing minimal.

packaging

Carton flag folding

The compact short body tucks beside folding arms on small carton sealers, pushing tabs over at up to 500 mm/s while the spring retracts the rod between boxes.

Replacing the Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10 with the ASE12X10

At 12 mm bore this is the smallest force class: 40 N push at 0.5 MPa net of the spring. If your load needs more, step up to the 16 mm bore (78.4 N at 0.5 MPa) or the 20 mm bore (127.4 N). Keep the stroke short - single acting springs suit 10-25 mm travels, and this 10 mm stroke is within the standard range for bore 12. Plan the return on the spring, not on air: only one air line is needed, and the rod retracts on air loss. Mounting brackets and the optional -S magnet for CMSE / DMSE switches should be ordered with the code. For new projects, specify ASE12X10 instead, as this model is discontinued.

Replacement checklist

  • ✓ Current-production ACE → ASE12X10
  • ✓ Same bore / stroke / force class
  • ✓ Confirm ISO 21287 mounting dimensions
  • ✓ Port/thread type (PT / G)
  • ✓ Add -S for magnet if you need sensors

Airtac ASP Single Acting Guided Compact Cylinder ASP12X10 FAQ

It is a single acting push, spring-return cylinder: 40 N push at 0.5 MPa and 62.7 N at 0.7 MPa, both already net of the return spring. Minimum working pressure is 0.2 MPa (28 psi), maximum 1.0 MPa (145 psi), proof 1.5 MPa (215 psi). Speed range is 50-500 mm/s, temperature -20 to +70 C, fluid is air filtered to 40 um, and the port is M5x0.8 with a female M3x0.5 rod thread.

Only if you order the optional -S magnet code - this base ASP12X10 has no magnet, so no CMSE or DMSE switch can be fitted. The model itself is discontinued; the current-production replacement is ASE12X10 (swap the P for an E), which matches the same bore, stroke and force class. Confirm the ISO 21287 mounting dimensions before swapping, and remember the spring always returns the rod to the retracted home position on air loss.
